Joe D mastermind

Ask your self a big question, why in the world did Joe Dumars (The Pistons GM) spend all that money last year when he could of got a good crop of players this year. Joe knew in 2009 that Wade, Bron, and Bosh was going to be playing together. Joe also knew guys like Dirk, Yao, and Gay would resign with their respected teams. He knew that then and spent the money in 2009 instead of waiting. Some will say well he could of got a shot at Amare, Boozer or Joe Johnson. Not in Joe D Mastermind. Joe knew that Amare would either be traded by Phoenix, or he would stay with the Suns or go back with his old coach in New York. Joe knew that he was not going to match all the money ATL or any other team was going to throw at Joe Johnson. Another reason why Joe D did not go at those second tier of players in this free agency class is because it would put a limit on the other players he would need to get to compliment Amare or Joe Johnson. Joe D just did not want Carlos Boozer, he had a chance to get him last year but well we will just leave it at that, he just did not want Boozer. So instead of looking like New Jersey who instead of getting any major superstar and just end up picking a bunch of ok talent. Joe D got 2 of the best players in the 09 market that would benefit his team in the future.

I agree with what you say about Joe D

We definitely got the most out of our money last summer instead of this. We essentially would have looked like the wizards at the end of this season, and what did they end up with?

I also wonder if Mr. Davidson passing away would have changed who he would have gone for. I can imagine if there was that much on the table the new ownership group would say stuff like “TRADE EVERYONE FOR LEBRON, DO ALL THAT HE DEMANDS!!!” to make the team more profitable for sale or something.

Anyways, you can read my thoughts in this thread, we have more important work to be done here.

Obligatory,

I can’t tell if this is sarcasm or not.

In the amount of money that we had, they had enough capspace for like 1 max player, I imagine we would have been similar.

by tads on Aug 7, 2010 6:35 PM EDT up reply actions

Sure, but Washington also came away with John Wall this offseason.

When they could have had ART!

And they’ll have a great chance of getting next year’s John Wall after this season is over.

by brgulker on Aug 8, 2010 9:18 AM EDT up reply actions

If we didn’t sign Charlie V and Ben Gordon last off-season we probably would have lost enough games to get John Wall.

meh I'd rather have Cousins

He’s a better overall player IMO, by quite a margin. And we could have easily had him if it wasn’t for that blasted 3 game winning streak.

Cousins will be ROY

FACT. John Wall’s got to provide for Andray Blatche and Kirk Hinrich. On the other hand, Cousins is just going to run a pick and roll with Tyreke Evans. He’ll be the best player in this draft.

And I’ve tried to scrub out that 3 game winning streak from my head. At least we didn’t get Ed Davis.

don’t forget about Blake Griffin, he’s a dark horse.

Oh snap

He technically is going to be a rookie.

by Biz Markie Moon on Aug 8, 2010 9:51 PM EDT up reply actions

Griffin's a bit undersized for the NBA though

He measured at 6’8" in the combine, so while he’s more athletic than Cousins, he’ll be facing purely PF, many of whom will be just slightly less athletic than him. Don’t forget Cousins does have a big advantage that he plays center, in that there really aren’t that many good defensive centers out there, and even still DeMarcus has a height advantage over just about all of them.

man

all I’m saying is that Griffin is technically a rookie, and a #1 pick shouldn’t be forgotten in the ROY consideration.

Blake Griffin is the anti-Cousins.

Blake Griffin is the anti-Beasley

Greg Monroe is the anti-Cousins

While we’re at it,

John Wall is shaping up to be the Anti-Evans (and future ROY)

Nuh uh

Ton-DMC will not be ROY.

by TDP on Aug 8, 2010 10:23 PM EDT up reply actions

Who is your pick?

I can’t really see a case for anybody outside of Cousins, Wall or Turner. Cousins to me has the best case scenario out of those three.

by Biz Markie Moon on Aug 8, 2010 10:30 PM EDT up reply actions

Hayward

Where in the world is Trent Plaisted?

by Kriz on Aug 8, 2010 11:47 PM EDT up reply actions

Good dark horse pick. He’s the starting SF for the Jazz, right? I’d say so since they lost Korver and Matthews. I’m still saying Cousins.

by Biz Markie Moon on Aug 9, 2010 1:56 AM EDT up reply actions

I think she was joking

Hawyard will likely be a good player, but not at the level of Wall, Turner, Cousins, Favors (or even possible Monroe, if those last 2 games were indicative of anything).

No jokin'

Lazar Hayward WILL BE ROY.

Like someone else said Blake Griffin should be mentioned

and Greg “The Earl” Monroe for sure.

John Wall will be ROY

He’ll score lots of points on an awful Wiz team. Griffin and Cousins will be better but won’t score as many points or play as many minutes. Same for Turner. Might as well just give him the award and get it over with.

by brgulker on Aug 9, 2010 9:34 AM EDT up reply actions

Turner was awful in the summer league where as Wall scored a lot (inefficiently)

I don’t think that is a sign that Turner won’t do well in the NBA, but I do think that it means that Wall will have a better chance of winning ROY because he will be doing far more shooting (regardless of minutes).

As for Cousins, I would argue he should get plenty of play time. Sacremento’s best option would be to start him alongside Dalembert, who would cover his defensive weaknesses until Whiteside develops. Griffin should also play a lot since the Clippers stupidly traded away Camby (who was having a Bennaissance type year)
