[Ed note: Interesting stuff, bumping to the front -- MW]
After the first practice of the Pre Season Keith Langlois guesses on what the current team hierarchy is...
Based on what color practice jersey players were wearing when reporters were allowed in to see what was left of practice – a few shooting drills – it appears the Pistons lined up in these five-man units:
Rodney Stuckey, Rip Hamilton, Ben Wallace, Jonas Jerebko and Tayshaun Prince on the white team;
Tracy McGrady, Charlie Villanueva, Jason Maxiell, Will Bynum and presumably Ben Gordon on the blue team – Gordon had peeled off his practice jersey and was wearing only a gray T-shirt;
and Terrico White, Austin Daye, Greg Monroe, Chris Wilcox and DaJuan Summers on the red team.
Ike Diogu had on a white jersey, perhaps indicating he’ll be splitting time with Ben Wallace to allow Kuester to give Wallace, 36, a reduced workload in camp while also getting a good look at Diogu.
So thats:
Rodney / Rip / Tayshaun / Jonas / Big Ben - White Team
Willy B / Bengo / T - Mac / Charlie / J Max - Blue Team
Terrico / Austin / Dajuan / Wilcox / Monroe - Red Team
PG / SG / SF / PF / C
My initial thoughts:
I guess they are either really serious about having Terrico White play point guard. Then again, when Vernon Hamilton comes maybe he will play point, and then Daye, White and Summers will lose some minutes.
My guess is that this is the probably the starting line up for the season. If the emphasis is on defense, like they repeatedly claim, I can't see any one on the Red Team playing worse defense than anyone on the white team. One exception maybe that Jerebko and CV will get swapped. I know that JJ is a better defender than CV, but CV might move up just because he might appear to be a better defender. It looks like he will be guarding JJ and Wilcox, and might not really be tested on defense, meanwhile he will probably going HARD on offense and making the others look bad. TMac may get up there too, but he just sounds like he is going to be nervous about his knee for a while.
Monroe on the third team is disappointing, especially since we know he has been in Auburn Hills for most of the last month or so. If they saw him making an immediate impact you'd think he would have jumped over Maxiell already. Perhaps, like summer league, it will talk longer than one might hope for the Moose to break loose.
