Around SBN: In Crunch Time, Spurs Don't Change Their Game

When ESPN.com reported on Tuesday that the Celtics would be willing to trade point guard Rajon Rondo for the right player, it surprised anyone who had seen the sixth-year player's mastery of the team's system in recent years.

But according to numerous sources with knowledge of the situation, Boston general manager Danny Ainge is highly motivated to land an even better point guard than the one who led the Celtics to a championship in 2008 and an average of 58.5 wins in the last four seasons: New Orleans' Chris Paul.

Ainge, the sources say, has recently discussed trading Rondo in a deal that nets Paul, but the Hornets don't appear interested in a two-team deal in which Rondo -- who has four years worth approximately $46 million left on his contract -- and Paul would switch places. So Ainge has been on the prowl for a third team that could provide the sort of young pieces Hornets general manager Dell Demps would covet as part of his possible rebuilding plan. The more pressing question, of course, is whether Paul, who can become a free agent after this season, would consider signing an extension with Boston.

I'd be happy with either.

What worthy package can we put together?

It’s worth a shot, I think.

LEGIT CENTERS. BRING THEM TO ME.

I’m not certain this would be enough for Boston. They are old.

i’d actually love to see Rondo on another team and see how he’d do… I’d reckon he might suck balls if he really had to be the floor leader without great shooters.

I smell a troll

I don’t buy this at ALL. He can’t be your top offensive option, but honestly, he’s been the best Celtic for the last couple of years. He’s that team’s leader. And he does what a point guard should; he sets people up. If Rondo was on this team, I would be enthused.

get your point, yes. he is an amazing player no doubt…i only meant that i wonder if his play is somewhat predicated by his being the young buck among established players. he is one surly dude and that is part of his charm, but that character might not work so well on a team in flux.

I can now say that there's no chance of that happening...

… because Chris Paul has made it known that he requests to be traded to New York. Courtesy of Yahoo! Sports:

The Hornets and Knicks are going to need a third team and possibly a fourth team to mingle with in order to somehow pull off this blockbuster deal.

Part of the reason my interest in the NBA is dwindling

..Paul’s little Wedding toast to Carmelo. A year or two ago or whenever the fuck.

Shit is so wack.

Check my baseball cards (I have more than one cause I been in the game son)

except for the one where some dude wrote fuck face on the end of the bat, all the stores pulled that one. It’s like a lost season. but

the DBB / POD ratio gotta gangsta lean towards DBB and it always will.

I’ll be back up in that ass as soon as the Lions bite the dust. And the dust they will bite.

I been meaning to write a fanshoot about my brother meeting all the Pistons Brass (he’s there right now actually)

That one will be very interesting to see how it develops.

The league delayed the start of the season claiming a desire for competitive balance, if the team controlled by the league happens to trade their franchise player to the Knicks then I can expect that to be nothing short of hilarious.

for this and other reasons

(like NY’s dearth of assets) I don’t expect this to happen. Paul will play through a disappointing year in NO without David West and maybe get traded at the deadline to a team that thinks they can win by adding him.

Then we see if he takes NY (and a “you’re the 3rd Star to arrive. Sorry, we don’t have real money left” contract) or the money from someplace else.

Someone said Orlando should make a move for CP3

If paul and howard walk, tons of capspace comes off the books, if they like playing together perhaps it would be enough to keep both of them in Orlando. crazy idea, perhaps it could work.

NEWS FLASH

If the Knicks trade for Chris Paul they will probably send Chauncey Billups to the Hornets. His contract expires this year. Opportunity for the Pistons?

Maybe we can talk Sheed out of retirement?

This would work best if DET can move Stuckey and/or Bynum (say in that hypothetical J-Smoove trade). Billups would be a great mentor for Knight. Plus, he’d improve Rip’s production, making him ripe for a mid-season trade.

LOLOLOL

this time we trade rip and keep chauncey. Joe’s “other mulligan.”
