Pistons won't use amnesty clause, according to the Freep

http://www.freep.com/article/20111130/SPORTS03/111130040/1051/sports03

The problem is that while none of those three contracts are "cap-breakers", together they are back-breaking. I think I would support using it on Villanueva above everyone else, but maybe saving it for a future mistake is the best plan. Even if we had exercised it this year, how many games would we win when we are getting excited about the thoughts of adding Brandon Haywood?

n1ck34 won't use FanShot, according to Packey

The problem is that while no part of this should have been a “FanPost”, making the decision was back-breaking.

Can't use it on a future mistake.

Gotta be used on a contract that was signed in the old CBA.

This is a tacit admission that all of DET’s high-dollar players suck and are tempting no one on the trade market.

sad but absolutely true. BG was a top 20 player when we got him and now he’s lucky to be top 100

Sunk costs

Playing BG and Rip only deflates the value of having Brandon Knight on a rookie contract. Nevermind that Dumars is likely going to resign Stuckey. You have to eat some of this money in order to reap the benefits of Knight being on a cheap contract or Stuckey being on a reasonable contract and improving. Keeping all the guards is the worst of all outcomes.

at some point someone has to say "you have too many guards on your team Joe"

I mean seriously…Bynum, Stuckey, White, Knight, Gordon, Rip??? And I feel like I’m missing someone.

nearly half of an our roster...

and not a single one of them at least projects as a PG. I have just gotten sad.

Atomic wedgie

It’s time for Rick Mahorn, Bill Laimbeer, and Dennis Rodman to grab Joe Dumars in the lockerroom and pull his underwear up over his head and remind him that it wasn’t only guard play that won the Bad Boys two championships. Talk about overlearning a lesson.

Thoughts on trade proposal:

Josh Smith to Detroit for:

Ben Gordon
Jason Maxiell
Austin Daye

This trade doesn’t currently work on RealGM since they haven’t updated their trade scenarios but Maxiell + Gordon + Daye is roughly $18M in salary vs. Smith * 150% being 18.75M.

We could also swap Daye for a 1st rounder.

Or Smith + Williams for

Gordon, Maxiell, and Daye

While Williams isn’t a compelling contract or player, moving both Gordon and Maxiell would allow us to spend our amnesty on CV and use williams off the bench behind Jerebko. We’d start:

Stuckey/Knight/Bynum
Hamilton/Knight/White
Jerebko/Williams
Smith/Jerebko
Monroe/Wallace

Why would they do that trade?

Atlanta could just resign Crawford instead of trading away one of their cornerstones for inconsistent instant offense

Without a doubt, squats are a cure for everything.

GET RID OF CHARLIE V WHILE YOU CAN!!!!!

Why the hell would they not use it to get rid of somebody who isn’t even close to being worth what their paying him?

I couldn't think of a better signature.
