With 3 team deal dead, Clippers/Warriors could be in lead for CP3 (Hypothetical Trade Chat)
If I'm not mistaken, this is the first hypothetical trade thread since the end of the lockout. The following trade is based on the roomers that with the Lakers pulling out of the CP3 trade market, the Warriors and Clippers are now leading the way as far as what New Orleans is after (Eric Gordon/Monta Ellis). Since the Clippers would have to give up Eric Gordon to get CP3, they'd also be in need of a new shooting guard:
New Orleans sends Chris Paul to LA Clippers
Clippers send Mo Williams, Eric Gordon, a 2012 1st and 2nd rounder to New Orleans, send Chris Kaman to Detroit
Detroit sends Ben Gordon to the Clippers, Austin Daye and a 2012 2nd rounder to New Orleans (we could throw Maxiell in as well heading to New Orleans without having to add more players to the deal)
New Orleans gets a starting point and shooting guard in Gordon and Williams, plus upside in Daye. They get 3 draft picks to re-build in what will be a very deep draft. If Maxiell is thrown in as well, they get some backfill for David West's departure.
The Clippers shed the unnecessary Kaman, acquire Paul, and backfill with a shooting guard to replace Eric Gordon. They retain Eric Bledsoe off their bench and become a guaranteed contender in the Western Conference. DeAndre Jordan and Blake Griffin should counter-balance the weakness in defense for the Clippers backcourt with BG.
Pistons move 2 bad contracts in Gordon and Maxiell, receiving a solid temporary solution for the year in Kaman. We move Daye and a 2nd rounder as a penalty for the mistakes we've made in the past. This leaves us glaringly weak at SG, however, there are still SGs to be had in free agency (Crawford and Afflalo, or Redd could be a bargain given the injury) and we still have Stuckey, Knight, and Bynum available as a 3 guard rotation.
This should give us considerable flexibility going into the 2012 free agency period and would also allow us to amnesty CV at the end of the season.
Now your thoughts/trade ideas...

Eric Gordon, Mo Williams and Austin Daye for Chris Paul?
Even with the picks, and NOLA’s interest in Gordon, that seems strikingly one-sided.
"Mike Payne is a walking-talking-hate-spewing-fire-breathing example of how exactly NOT to use supposed "statistical" analysis in the game of basketball."
LA does have one high-value pick.
The Clippers own Minnesota’s unprotected 2012 first-round pick from the Marco Jaric trade they made a few years ago.
Sad thing is they could have had Kyrie Irving right now
But I guess Baron Davis was just so in-conducive to the younger player’s growth that they willingly gave up a high lottery pick just to get rid of him

yeah, that was nuts.
I can’t believe they have the Twolves pick this year though. It’s nearly guaranteed to be top 3.
the T-Wolves looked surprisingly good early last year
Their frontline was putting up dominant numbers across the board. It’s possible that after making some offseason adjustments (in the film room etc) they could reattain that performance

i think adelman is going to get that team in shape
i hesitate to say it but they could be a fringe playoff team, maybe.
Adelman is the most underrated coach in the league.

No sir. Lawrence Frank is the most underrated coach in the league...
Who wants to take bets today that the Pistons end up with a better record than the T’Wolves?

If CP3 comes to the Clips
I would not only attend many more NBA games this year, I also might poop my pants a little. I also also might consider season tickets some day when such a thing is financially possible. Paul/Griffin pick-and-rolls until my hairline starts to look like LeBron’s.

Looks like it is Bledsoe, Kaman, Aminu, and two firsts (including the coveted Minnesota pick) for Paul and maybe a second. Woj confirmed Gordon isn’t included in deal. Sounds like they expect it to be approved this afternoon.

Right now it's sounding on ESPN like Gordon's in the deal
and the Minnie pick as well. Which would be terrible for the Clips – they could get him with just the pick. Throwing Gordon in (needlessly) would leave them without enough talent to build a really great team.
Anybody can happen!

Terrible handling by the league – they’re screwing the Hornets more than anyone else. And interfering in legal and mutually beneficial deals.
Good for the Clippers they didn’t cave in to the league’s demands anyway.
Anybody can happen!
yeah the league is effectively saying, you need to get 150-200% of CP3's value to even be considered for a trade

Espn's front page story
The Clippers, sources said, will send guard Eric Gordon, center Chris Kaman, forward Al-Farouq Aminu and Minnesota’s unprotected 2012 first-round pick to the Hornets for Paul.
None of which changes my hatred for Donald Sterling. They could sign Pete Maravich in his prime and I would still despise that franchise.

Did you guys see that video of Blake Griffin’s reaction when he found out about the trade? He started giggling while saying, “Lob city!!”

Adrian Wojnarowski: Stern screwed everybody.
http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=aw-wojnarowski_chris_paul_trade_nba_david_stern_121511
meh
Stern made a hell of a trade with the Clippers. In hindsight turning out the Lakers was a smart move; as far as we know he could have already received the offer before the Laker trade was finalized and that’s why he vetoed it as the owner (not commissioner)
