FREE TERRICO!

The guy is like a current-generation Jason Richardson. I hopes Terrico can develop his jumper the way J-Rich has during the course of his NBA career. The Pistons gotta find a way to get him some minutes this year.

If he’s this generation’s J Rich, he’ll earn those minutes, and you’ll have nothing to worry about.

I really do hope that Terrico tears it up in camp and forces Frank to give him minutes. Last year was such a disaster with line-ups, it’s too bad that he was hurt and didn’t get a chance in there.
Good thing is, the roster and rotation is just as unsettled this year!

I only have one thing to say about that:

Nah mean? What it do?

He’s definitely got the vertical explosion, I think the question is whether or not he has the quickness to get past defenders and up to the rim.

Terrico White drove past a lot of guys at Ole Miss. And I mean a lot. Dude literally lived in the lane offensively. The head coach there had him playing point guard for a number of possessions which I thought was kind of retarded because he isn’t one to hesitate to call his own number very often when it came to shot distribution, but I digress.

Anyway, Terrico plays tenacious defense as well. He’s definitely not one of those showboating high-flyers who tend to relax on the other end of the court.

And I actually believe he would be a really good open court player in the NBA once he tunes up his jumper and improve his fairly average handles. However, a potential problem I foresee is that the Pistons don’t really look to run often enough for him to really showcase his skills and athletic ability. So it’ll be interesting to see what kind of tempo that Lawrence Frank will have this team running.

Spread the word to end the word.

Right there with ya Matt.

I support the use of the word "retarded"

When it means “retarded.” I’m not sure if that’s true in this case, but I’m just sayin… If you don’t “believe” in climate change (or, let’s say, advanced stats), you are retarded. My mom taught special education and I’ve been brave enough to point out the factual relevance of this word in many recent conversations with her, not that she agrees. When someone does something that lacks intelligence or implies general ignorance of a subject, it’s not only correct but often times quite hilarious to say, “Yo, that’s just retarded.”

FYI, I do not use the N word, as it’s a word created by those intentionally trying to disparage… blah blah blah. I don’t need to explain that unless you’re retarded.

Definition of RETARDED: slow or limited in intellectual or emotional development or academic progress

Upon further analysis, the use of “retarded” was completely legitimate in this post by Kruza. Terrico White should not be used as a point guard, and said usage by a coach could be considered as “slow or limited in intellectual or emotional development or academic progress.”

What's a hundred million between friends? Make a deal and let's get on with it.

Unfortunately

Not everyone understands or uses the word the way you do, so it can come off as quite offensive.

Also, haven’t been this excited about a Pistons’ dunker since… Darvin Ham?

Lebron supports the use of the word retarded.

That’s enough for me to endorse abolishing the word.

What would Earl Boykins do?

Okay okay!

Maybe I should have said “stupid” or “dumb” instead. Whatever. I just know it certainly wasn’t a smart decision to play Terrico White at point guard under any circumstance. It just gave him more incentive toward becoming a ball hog as opposed to becoming a floor general who look to get his teammates involved first.

That’s kind of like saying it’s okay to use gay as a slur as long as you’re defining “gay” as happy.

Mad respect, BandWagonerPaysTheDues, but I don’t think “retarded” can ever be redeemed in the way you’re suggesting. 99.98% of the time, people don’t use it in the educated way you’re arguing for, so even while I think you’re right on paper, it’s just impossible in practice.

I’m definitely biased on this one, though, as I’ve got some personal experience with a “retarded” young man who’s dear to my heart, and knows full well that “retard” is an insult when it’s hurled at him. /full disclosure

What is the correct terminology?

By the way is the term queer considered a slur over there? Because we use that one for theory.

DBB, politically correct.

Queer is definitely a slur.

not exclusively

it’s also a commonly used self-referential title of pride in the LGBT community.

"Mike Payne is a walking-talking-hate-spewing-fire-breathing example of how exactly NOT to use supposed "statistical" analysis in the game of basketball."

True

Depends on who’s using it in context, sort of like the N word. It’s not something I’d never use as a white dude, but the black community has given it an entirely different meaning.

I still think that there are other words one can use that aren't nearly as potentially offensive.
