As to what teams should be making a push for Stuckey: he'd be great in Dallas, Toronto, New York, Utah, L.A. (both teams) or Orlando. Most of those teams have just the mid-level to play with, creating an artificial cap on the types of offers Stuck could get. Regardless, assuming he and the Pistons don't find common ground quickly, it should be an interesting free agent period for the guard.

So...
this should prevent Dumars from offering Stuckey any more than slightly above the MLE, right? More than likely he’ll simply match the offer sheet of a MLE-sized deal ($5 million/year for 4 years). I feel like I could live with that.

I feel like I could live with that.
Absolutely, in a heartbeat. Especially if Stuckey has a really solid year— on an MLE-level contract, he could be one of the best trade assets next summer. If not, he’s still a solid sixth man and he’d be paid like one.
"Mike Payne is a walking-talking-hate-spewing-fire-breathing example of how exactly NOT to use supposed "statistical" analysis in the game of basketball."
By "MLE-sized deal" you mean "max contract" right?
Cause, you know, that would make a lot more sense and stuff.
My federal building is way cooler than your federal building.

Yeah, I don't get the feel there's a good market for him.
The only way somebody would overpay for him is if they believed Dumars would match and so, the driving force would be getting the Pistons to overpay to keep him. But with new management and the Knight draft, I would be very careful, if I were another GM, of doing so.
Stuckey is not a superstar, and the Pistons don’t need him. They may want to keep him, but they don’t need him.
WWGMD?
I don’t see anyone putting a high offer out there for Stuckey. Maybe in prior years where Bill D. gave pretty much free reign to Dumars for player management. But in the Gores era, I half expect someone from Platinum to review every offer Dumars and co. make.
If we get Stuckey for a 4 year/$20m deal, I’ll be happy. If he ends up surprising all of us we’ll have a SG on a super cheap contract. If he doesn’t, he’s at least paid fairly for a super sub/sixth man role.

I thought we already made a qualifying offer?
Oh yeah! Here it is!
I think he would do TERRIBLE in Toronto or Orlando, btw. Their centers live under the basket and their pfs don’t really stretch the floor (er, the other way around in Toronto). Other teams are already doubling on Dwight and now that they’re not worried about Stuck taking the jumper it looks like a lose-lose for all. He would be terrible for Toronto and that’s exactly why they should sign him. They LOVE terrible.
You never know though...Rodney might start hitting more consistently from 15-20 ft if people were sagging off him
but I wouldn’t sign him based on that expectation.

Glenn Davis might be our starting center next year!
Oh wait.

I have to disagree
People sagged off on him for exactly that reason this past season. They challenged him to shoot and when he did he posted eFG% of .313 (ouch). He needs a clear lane with two shooting bigs who have decent mid range elbow and baseline jumpers or killer post moves. I could see him doing well somewhere like San Antonio. I guess I could see New York if Amare stays out of the paint, but I don’t think he fits in Dantoni’s system.
313
Represent.
What would Earl Boykins do?

lol
Honestly, I didn’t even notice. He can stay. But he has to move out to Auburn Hills and shoot .586

I'd rather he drove in from A2 and shot .734

My guess is he signs the qualifying offer and becomes a UFA next summer, after the craziness of this year begins to settle. He’ll have one more chance to play for a contract, which I expect he’ll take (unless someone offers him something crazy this year).
Ultimately, I think this is the best thing for both parties. If he flops, we let him walk in a year. If he excels, well, we’ll still have a shot to retain him without any long-term commitment this year.
"With logic he attacks. With statistics he defends."
Let him walk.
I don’t want him back. I have absolutely no loyalties to anyone on this team anymore. I’d much rather see Brandon Knight get consistent, starter’s minutes if the Pistons are only going to win 20-30 games again this season.
Oops, 66-game season.
*16-24 wins, season-adjusted.

Stuckey for Billups
I’ve said this before, but I think NY would be willing to do this to get younger at the PG position. If we can dump a lousy contract as well, all the better.
yeah not to mention the fact that Melo/Amare don't need a PG to pass them the ball.
Maybe Amare a wee bit, but not really.

Aside from nostalgic value
what does that trade truly accomplish?

I wouldn't mind seeing
Billups/Knight
Hamilton/Stuckey
SF/Daye
Jerebko/CV
Monroe/Wallace
Oddly enough, thats a reasonably well-balanced team aside from the SF/Daye situation.
