NBA draft talk
The NBA draft is coming up and the Pistons need to exicute this year. They have the 8th pick in what i think is a weak draft class. So i've been thinkin and i came up with some options. i used this link to help me with my options:
http://www.nbadraft.net/2011mock_draft
TRADE DOWN:
We could trade our 8th pick for a pick and a player.. a good role player. i only consider this option because there are good players at the bottom of the first round(Shelvin Mack,Kenneth Faried,Nolan Smith, ect.) and, if Joe uses his brain, we could get a good player out of a trade. And, according to the link, we are projected to get Marcus Morris. He is a good player and all but not what we need. He is listed as a 6'8 SF/PF. Not what we need. We could trade down to Denver where we might be able to squezze Raymond Felton out of Denver and to the motor city. But if were shooting to get Kenneth Faried then I suspect he will go a little earlier than 22nd. Washington, Houston, Indiana, Philly, Charlotte, Minnosota are other possible destinations.
TRADE UP:
This is very unlikely. If we wanted Enes Kanter we would have to trade the pick Stuckey and RIp/Charlie. When you think about that though that dont seem to bad. Anyway I dont think any of the top 5 teams will even think of trading their picks but hey its an option. Think of a Kanter/Monroe combo though. Not bad. But then again we need a point guard. A true point guard. Walker, Irving and Night are good guards. Again trading up VERY unlikely but still an option.
STAY AND DO NOTHING:
Another option. I really dont want to take Morris type of player because we have a surplus. Joe needs to bust a move but be smart about it.
2ND ROUND:
I just wanna take a quick look at the 2nd round. Were predicted to take Jordon Williams out of Maryland. Nahh. Good player but we have Monroe and Villuava(for the time being) and i like other guys better at this point.
If we do take a big guy in the first round though then you think of Isaiah Thomas out of Washington. Im really big on this guy. Look at the Pac 10 championship game. SWISH! But if we do end up taking a guard in the first then I look at Dallas Lauderdale out of Ohio State. Hes tough and a good defender and rebounder. Sounds like a Detriot Piston. Jon Leuer is a tall tough guy out of Wisconsin i like too.
OVERALL:
Overall i think Dumars cant screw this up. We need a bonafide center and pure point guard. The draft can build great teams(Oklahoma City) but can blow up teams(Timberwolves and Lions) Dont blow us up

Either TRADE UP (and get rid of anyone for that) or STAY
Way I see it (and according to rumors), First 7 players are becoming a lock-
Irving, Williams, Kanter, Night, Vesely, Valenciunas and Leonard- Not in that particular order…
That leaves us a choice between Kemba, Bismack or Tristan Thompson.
Forget Biyombo (we don’t need “potential” stiffs that’ll take years to develop).
If Dumars sees Walker as a potential Franchise player, grab him. If not, grab Thompson who would be an excellent compliment to Monroe (an excellent slasher and defender).
Kemba doesn't last to 8
If he does, pick him.
Thompson has the same chance of busting/needing time to develop as Bismack. Bismack is the better defender and is more athletic.

I think we have no say in the matter
If Kemba is around at 8 Joe Dumars’s hard-on will pick up the phone and make the call before anyone in the “Draft War Room” knows what’s going on. I bet we pick with 2:59 remaining on the clock.
…And if we then trade Gordon to the [Insert team] for BLOCKS AND DUNKS it will officially be the most magical month ever!

I thought so too, unless someone here is Joe D and isn’t telling anyone.

I’m actually warming up to Kemba… as the statistical analysis starts, he actually looks better than I realized.
I’m just sooooo nervous about an international big.
yeah i would pick Kemba over blocks and dunks
put Daye at the 2 and your size problems are solved. I just think it’s like a 30% chance that Bismack lives up to his lofty Big Ben/Tyson Chander/Serge Ibaka comparisons.

If that happened, I would come. Everywhere. Then I’d realize we still have Ben Gordon and Villaneuva. And then I’d cry.
