SI's Zach Lowe on Greg Monroe's monster season
Greg Monroe is having a monster season. The numbers are ridiculous:
• Monroe is fifth in the league in Player Efficiency Rating, and one of the guys ahead of him (Manu Ginobili) will soon fall off the leader board due to a lack of minutes.
• He is shooting 59.7 percent from the floor. Only Nene shot better last season.
• He has rebounded 14.4 percent of Detroit’s misses, an offensive rebounding rate that would have led the entire league last season.
• He has assisted on 19.4 percent of Detroit’s baskets while on the floor Among players 6-foot-9 or taller, only Hedo Turkoglu and Brad Miller posted higher assist rates last season. One of those guys isn’t a traditional big man, and the other barely eked out 1000 minutes.

My favorite part of this article:
But the raw material is here, and Monroe looks to be stouter in the post; opponents have shot just 11-of-33 against him in post-up chances this season after torching him for 50 percent shooting in the post last season, according to Synergy.

He's holding opposing bigs whether its PF or C position to just 33% shooting in the post
That shit is straight up beautiful.

That’s not something I would have thought, as a semi-casual observer. I mean, no one ever talks about Moose as a lock down defender. This is awesome.
These are the Dues, right? Do I eventually get club level seating or something with membership?

I love Greg Monroe.
But then again, he’s easy to love when he looks this smooth.

Why do I suspect
that it was a different person than the guy who put together the awesome promo video?

the ironic thing is he would be a solid pairing for Moose
3 blocks per 36 is nothing to sneeze at, though he fails at the whole rebounds and dunks thing

Alright, time to admit to something….
I wanted Udoh over Monroe. There’s the dark stain on my past. I thought Udoh was going to be a beast due to his numbers in college. And, by and large, I don’t like Georgetown for producing NBA talent (and the wrong Dejuan broke my heart). I had my reasons, they just weren’t well thought out.
Still, I couldn’t have predicted Monroe’d be beasting this hard.

I wanted Cole Aldrich over Greg Monroe.
What a fool I was!

Yeah, I remember a few being high on Aldrich around here before the draft.
I wanted no part of him.
Yet, now, I’d take him, and just about anyone over 6’8", to balance this roster.

I still think Aldrich has a chance
to be a Pryzbilla type player, a very useful rotation guy who won’t hurt you but won’t win a game for you by himself either. If he could just find a way off of OKC’s bench…

I always said Monroe was gonna be this good.
I argued he was the right pick and that he would be a good rebounder, an efficient scorer and an all around awesome Moose.
(No, I didn’t)

Still, I couldn’t have predicted Monroe’d be beasting this hard.
I don’t think anyone did. Did anyone expect him to shoot and rebound this well given his college performance? I could be wrong, but I don’t remember anyone predicting this.

ya hes a awesome defender
but pretty average everywhere else

I have to get myself back to reality
By now, if he doesn’t get 15-10-2 on efficient shooting I feel he had a bad game.

I think that's a great expectation to have
Maybe not entirely reasonable, but definitely it means we have a future

Thank you Golden State!
I was hoping we’d get Monroe, though I thought Cousins had more potential. Just shows how you can’t be sure on these things, because at his rate of progress Monroe will be considered the steal and the best player of the 2010 draft. I agree Udo could possibly be a good pairing alongside Monroe, but he hasn’t shown the rebound numbers yet. If we can get a guy like Thomas Robinson this year to bolster our bigs, I’d be happy.
The truest thing I ever read about Hedo Turkoglu is when in that first Free Darko book they did a reassessment of the 2000 NBA Draft (aka the worst NBA draft of all time) and wrote that Hedo Turkoglue’s multi-positionality was less awe-inspiring and impressive and more like that friend of yours that doesn’t study for the test and still gets and a.

Snub
It now seems like Greg being left off the Olympic Tryouts is a snub. Given his continued development, and the general lack of traditional back-to-the basket big men on the team, it seems like he should have at LEAST been invited to tryout.
Seems like he should be a lock for the 2016 team, anyway.

He'd bring something which they really don't have right now.
