One win ends all kinds of losing: Pistons 94, Trail Blazers 91

Here, this is a video I was introduced to by my friend Brady and it really could should be a stand alone recap:

I believe everything in the above-embedded video.

And this was an exciting win not just because wins are fun, but also because the Pistons ended several losing streaks on Saturday night -- a five game losing streak at home, a four game losing streak overall, and a seven game losing streak to the Portland Trail Blazers that dated back to February 2008.

Rodney Stuckey was the major reason for this, as he was not Suckey, and scored 28 points on 8-for-15 shooting (8-for-9 from the line). Brandon Knight added 14 points and Greg Monroe had 10 points and eight rebounds.

More in a minute...

Star-divide

Nobody makes Jonas bleed his own blood:

  • Pp-jerebko-blood_medium

  • Screenshot2012-01-21at94054pm_medium
  • Jonas had 11 points (on 4-for-8 shooting) and five rebounds in 21-plus minutes. I said it in the game thread, but I'll say it again: TEAM JONAS
  • The Pistons were 7-for-20 on spot up shots. They were a combined 13-for-19 on transition, offensive rebounds, and cut plays.
  • The Pistons were outrebounded 38-34. While Detroit attempted eight more free throws, they took 14 less shots than Portland. Portland made four more shots than Detroit, but the Pistons hit four more threes and seven more free throws.
  • After turning it over 25 times Friday night, Detroit only turned it over 11 times on Saturday night.
  • Stuckey was 4-for-5 from three-pointers; the Pistons were 7-for-15.
  • WOW, Stuckey dunks.
  • Drive, dish, dunk. Man, the Pistons look sharp.
  • Jason Maxiell had seven points and seven rebounds, and had a team-best +15 plus-minus.
  • Damien Wilkins and Walker Russell Jr. were a combined plus-13.

Scheduling Win

If we can’t beat a team who was ending a road trip and playing its 4th game in 6 nights, we probably deserve to go 3-63.

Just a couple of thoughts…the biggest problem with this team is the lack of size. We’ve discussed this before, but add a quality big or two, and and the wins will multiply soon as a result of being able to play people in their natural position. I mean, I would like to see if JJ can play the 3.

The other thing, the guard rotation is probably ok, but again, the lack of size makes things look worse than they actually are.

This is DBB, and this is what we do.

V...we were playing our 4th game in 5 nights...

with two of those on the road and injuries limiting minutes. That said, what happened to Crash? Is he injured? I didn’t even think about this until after the game was over but that was probably the reason why we won…if Gerald Wallace had been playing, there is no way Tayshaun stops him consistently.

I was too busy watching memphis sneak into first place

but it looks like the guard play was awesome. Maybe Stuckey is about to blossom in the 2 spot?

and can ya imagine how good Portland would be with Brandon Roy and Greg Oden not going all Sam Bowie on everyone?

I too saw some of that

And just think, a Z-bo trade to the Pistons wasn’t an outrageous idea a few years back. Amazing the strides they’ve made, I like them a lot.

There are some hip hop heads in here, including but likely not limited to Mike Payne, Bismark E. Moon, Soufpaw, and I think either PS or TDP although I get the handles confused occasionally. I don’t have an awesome memory sometimes so if I left you out, goddamn my bad.

I am and always will be completely obsessed with rap music and culture and I try to interject that shit whenever possible.

That's A Great Tune

Really ahead of its time…shame Cameo couldn’t back it up with a string of hits. Moreover, I’m a little surprised more groups from Atlanta didn’t break out during that time. Same with Minneapolis, which was the Motown Sound transposed to the ‘80s. There were a lot of talented guys playing with Prince, Terry Lewis and Jimmy Jam made it as producers, Alex O’Neal became big in the UK (someone wants an instant Top !0 single…they should cover “Fake”, but you better have the voice for it). but more of them should have made it as musicians .

Part of me always wanted to be Hesh, or even better Ahmet Ertugun, whom the character Hesh was allegedly developed from. I do know talent when I see it, but sometimes I feel out of touch. I don’t see it with Bruno Mars, and when I see Lady Gaga, who is a ripoff of Madonna, it makes me wonder who is going to rip both of them off 20 years from now. I listen to “Poker Face” and wonder what am I missing here. Maybe because I’m from Detroit, and we have standards here.

This is DBB, and this is what we do.

Because he looks like a cross between Terrance Howard and Allen Iverson (which reminds me, DJay in Hustle & Flow sounds almost exactly like Iverson)?

It is pretty amazing

that this team could play well twice in a month (2 out of the last 12 and more than occasionally competitive in any of the losses) and still be only have the fifth or so worst record and be a lucky win or two from being the number eight pick again.

Surely, this team has been unbalanced and awful enough to get a top three pick? It’s hard for me to understand how those other guys can be worse.

the worst part about JoD's stupidity is that he's never quite dumb enough for us to get a top 3 pick...

unless he lucks into it with an Otis Thorpe trade.

perish the thought, but if they did I’m convinced that the best we could hope for is the fourth pick. Book it.
