Hamilton sold his house in the Detroit area when Billups was traded to Denver. He admitted that if he had known his backcourt mate and good friend was going to be traded he would never have signed a contract extension, which was about the only controversial thing he had to say about his "incredible experience" with the Pistons.

Of course, this contradicts the other report:
That Rip had only agreed to the extension, and Dumars told him after Billups was traded that if he was so upset about the deal, he didn’t have to sign the extension.
I posted the link on here once before, but sadly cannot find it.

By the way, what happened to the search function?
Why does it suck so much now?

Agreed
Oddly though, it’s still working right under the profile search. I dunno. Here’s your linky though.

This is why this was so interesting to me
It seems that Rip was either covering up what happened before to save face for himself/the franchise/Joe Dumars OR somebody’s fibbing somewhere.
Personally, I believe what’s being reported now, as it just feels more likely based on what we know about Dumars’ blundering the last 5 years or so.

Rip doesn't exactly have the most credibility.
Rip is the same one last year who ran to the media and said “I have no idea why Kuester benched me.” Even though it was later revealed that he verbally berated and belittled Kuester in the middle of a practice. He also painted Kuester into a corner, as there’s no way Kuester can reveal that type of misconduct to the media.
Is it possible that things went down the way Rip said they went down? Yeah, it’s completely possible. But I definitely don’t believe it because Rip said it. Him coming out and saying this confirms nothing.

let's not forget about fueding with AI
then going on sportscenter and saying how he had nothing to do with it and it was all Curry’s fault. Somehow it’s magically Qs fault afterwards. Next it becomes the fault of the ballhogs on the team. Now I guess it’s all Joes fault. The only guy he didn’t blame was himself.
Without a doubt, squats are a cure for everything.

Also ...
In his comments to media after the Chicago game the other day, he said that he’d never been in the visitor’s locker room of the Palace before. Uh … how exactly did he dress for games then when he played in Detroit with Washington?
I don’t know if Hamilton intentionally lies, but he at the very least has the world’s worst memory. I certainly don’t think Dumars is above lying to save face. But on this particular topic — whether Hamilton was given the chance to not sign his contract if he didn’t want to after the Billups trade went down — I think I’d be more inclined to believe that account than Rip’s.
