Before the season started I raved about Kyle Singler and thought that he'd be a strong contributor to the team in his rookie year. Many pooh poohed my optimism, but with tonight's start and the team's win I'm all the more optimistic he will find a regular spot in the rotation.
I also think the return of Corey Maggette was a big plus for the team tonight. His scoring on high percentage shooting was another key ingredient that has been missing. I'm looking for him to be a big part of the team's offense at both shooting guard and small forward.
Kim English didn't play as much and I'm not convinced he will emerge as the first guard off the bench this season as others' have claimed he would. Singler and Maggette I think have sewed up these minutes. Stuckey will return and likely be the starter again soon, but I'm going to keep an eye on how Singler and Jerebko may play bigger and bigger roles on the first unit eventually, if Andre Drummond continues to brought along cautiously.
Really feels good to have a win for a change, but it was against a 76ers team that far from full powered. Still things have got to get somewhat better than they've been a 9 game road swing is really grueling. It will be interesting to see how the addition of Maggette and the continuing emergence of Singler plays out. Will Stuckey's minutes be reduced? Will Prince's minutes be reduced? Will Maxiell gradually see his minutes reduced in favor of Jerebko or perhaps Monroe, if we get to see Drummond playing alongside him? I wouldn't be surprised to see Stuckey getting some minutes in the point guard role once again too.
Although Will Bynum has been something of a nice surprise this year offensively, the continuing rap against him on defense - particularly with regard to his lack of size, might squeeze him out of the regular rotation with the return of Maggette. Hopefully this won't negatively impact the way Drummond stays involved in the offense, but we will see. Perhaps Bynum at least has shown Knight and Stuckey the importance of looking for the Big D.
Possible new lineup looks:
PG Knight 32 mpg, Stuckey 16 mpg
SG Singler 26 mpg, Stuckey 10 mpg, Maggette 12 mpg
SF Prince 22 mpg Jerebko 18 mpg, Maggette 8 mpg
PF Maxiell 18 mpg, Jerebko 10 mpg, Monroe 20 mpg
C Monroe 18 mpg, Drummond 22 mpg, Kravtsov 8 mpg (I still think he's likely to emerge)
What do you think?
