The Pistons put the clamps down on defense and impressed their home crowd with an efficient 20-point win on Sunday night against the Boston Celtics, 103-83.
The Pistons took full advantage of a tired Celtics team playing its fourth game in five nights and second straight back to back on Sunday night. Six Pistons scored in double figures, led by another Greg Monroe double-double -- 20 points and 13 rebounds -- and the Pistons walked away with a 20-point victory, 103-83, to improve to 2-9.
The Celtics' stagnant offense was held in check by the Pistons, who got back to the defense we were starting to see hints of before the Magic meltdown on Friday night. The Celtics had 18 turnovers and just 12 assists in the game, 10 of which came from Rajon Rondo, who notched his 34th straight game with 10-plus assists.
The Pistons moved the ball well in transition, picking up 23 assists and outscoring the Celtics 20-4 on the fast break. Although Brandon Knight had by far his worst game of the season in terms of running the offense (one assist and five turnovers), Will Bynum and Rodney Stuckey picked up the slack off the bench, each dishing out five assists and combining for 21 points with no turnovers.
This was a good win for the Pistons, especially since it was against the always hated Celtics, and it's one to build on over the next few days before avenging their recent bad loss to the Magic come Wednesday night, TBBNOTY.
Bullets:
- Pistons starters shot 26 for 44 (59%). Monroe was 8 for 11 and Kyle Singler was 6 for 9.
- Andre Drummond only played about 18 minutes, but he was fantastic. He played strong defense on KG in limited time, had a steal that led to this coast to coast layup, and six rebounds. He needs more minutes.
- Jason Maxiell was great with 15 and 6 and a digested baby.
