It's a coach's job to try and win

It’s the GM’s job to improve the team in any way possible, and on a rebuilding team that means trading pieces that could help get a few more wins this year for draft picks, cap space or promissing young players. That way, even as the players and coach try to win, they should still lose a few more and end up with better lottery chances.

Truthfully I can't imagine any coach intentionally losing.

it just doesn’t look good on a coaches resume. A coach could tank for years and get lottery pick after lottery pick and still never win a championship, and after all that losing a championship is the only thing that could redeem it. Winning is the resume builder for coaches in the absence of championships. I doubt any coach would take a job that they were asked to tank a season for.
