Via the freep: "Gordon and Bynum both said during the weekend that they wanted to get back to practice today. Gordon has missed 11 straight games, Bynum 14."

Good thing or bad thing for the prospects of this team going forward?

well, i suppose this could improve our lottery odds, but I’d rather watch the team as currently constructed. If we cut Walker D. after these two guards return, I will not be happy…

improve our lottery odds

This should be the emphasis moving forward. However, if these past 14 games have proven anything, it’s that Bynum is expendable. Joe should try to rid himself of that contract and see if somebody needs a backup PG.

All the time relaxed.

Shop Bynum?

It’s a good thing to have Bynum back, but only to shop him. I like my undersized 29 year old 3rd string point guards to come in the league minimum salary variety, not cost $3M per year. I agree with MFMP that cutting Walker Russell would be a mistake. Time to trim some salary fat off this roster and go bargain hunting.

Definitely shop the dude

Bynum + Daye MIGHT net a late 1st rounder for a team looking to add depth before a playoff run. Bynum on his own should at least net a 2nd rounder.

Pulling trades out of my arse

I was looking at Daye + Prince to the Clippers for Mo Williams and a second round pick. The Pistons get out of Prince’s now creaky looking deal, the Clippers get a piece to make a run now and pair Prince back up with Billups, and the Pistons clear a bit of salary down the road.

Bynum to New Orleans or Atlanta for a ball rack would be OK with me. The Pistons have enough bad salaries without throwing $3M on top of the pile for a PG who never plays.

I like the Clippers trade but sadly it won't happen for 2 reasons

1) Mo Williams has been playing great back up PG ball
2) Chauncey Billups is out for the season with an achilles tear

How about the following:

Will Bynum for Boston’s worse 2012 2nd round draft pick (they have Keyon Dooling and Avery Bradley as their “PGs” off the bench)

Bynum + Daye for Billups + Randy Foye

Gets us into expired contracts and we’d just have to waive the rights to do a med check on billups.

Or with Phoenix:

Marcin Gortat for Austin Daye + Will Bynum + 2013 protected first rounder (lottery protected). If we did this we could actually draft someone like Sullinger knowing that we’d now have a great 3 man frontcourt.

love the Boston and Clips trades

I’d do both in a heartbeat. I wouldn’t move Gortat for our garbage if I’m Phoenix though. The guy is having the best season of his career, he’s averaging 15, 10 and 2 and he costs less than Chunky Charlie. In terms of production per dollar, that guy is one of the best values in the league.

I would entertain packaging our 1st rounder this season for Gortat, not even lottery protected, if Gortat were just a few years younger. Statistically, he’s one of the top ten centers in the L.

ya wanna know what’s funny? Cole Aldrich has a higher PER than Greg Monroe this year! In like 45 total minutes!! PER FTW!!

Perhaps...I'd throw in whatever else was needed to get it done...

I have a foggy memory that players who are signed off waivers after being amnesty’d can’t be traded. Could be wrong, though.

I’m pretty sure you’re correct, that there was a one year no-trade deal.

by Mike Payne on Feb 8, 2012 12:25 PM EST up reply actions

Yes, there’s an amnesty restriction on Chauncey that ends on July 1. Beforehand, he cannot be traded.

by Mike Payne on Feb 8, 2012 12:26 PM EST up reply actions

I'd be surprised

If I remember correctly, the Pistons have the roster space to not have to cut anybody. I think they were leaving a spot open so they could sign a backup big man, but I think that ship has sailed and Maxiell has acquitted himself decently as the first big man off the bench (of a bottom-five team).

I'm gonna miss Walker Russell

Even if they keep him I don’t see him getting minutes.

Hey Kriz

I’m sitting in Puerto Rico right now! Just had to share. Nice place you’ve got here.

I was in the San Juan area on business. My hotel was near Condado and my business was south of the airport. I did manage to walk along the beach in Condado and visit Old San Juan. I was only there 2 nights, but it is a cool place. You sure can’t beat the weather!

Indeed they did! Everyone was great.

I like to slower pace down there. Nobody seemed too rushed.

I kind of forgot that Ben Gordon and Will Bynum were even on the team.

by garrettelliott on Feb 8, 2012 12:16 AM EST reply actions

yeah...thats happened a lot in the past 2 years...

player gets injured and all of a sudden, its been 15 games and they haven’t played.

I just refuse to acknowledge the existence of Ben Gordon in a Pistons uniform.

So true. When I think of our team, I think of Brandon Knight, Stuckey, Jonas, Monroe, Ben Wallace, and Tay. But mostly I’m thinking of Jonas.
