Hey friends. I've noticed a thread or two being taken over recently with arguments about the merits of Joe Dumars as President of Basketball Operations. These arguments include a few subjects, such as drafting, coaches, extensions, trades and free agent signings. Each subject can, has been, and most certainly will be broken down further to include a myriad of subtopics.
From this occasional participant's viewpoint, the general consensus seems to be that Dumars was the absolute dude for about five years, minus one Darko (it's own mini-debate), and then basically lost his mind and let a perpetual conference finalist turn into one of the absolute worst teams in the league. Now that the team is showing a few glimmers of hope, a few more fans are probably going to be popping their heads into the site and wondering why all these grumpy hardcore fans seem so pessimistic (when all they have is pure hope and dedication to the team). They may not have seen all of the respect for Dumars successes and previous honest and respectful debates on the subject which have informed our greater viewpoints. I think I can speak for everyone in saying that we think that JOD is a legend who we have tons of love for and think is an all around upstanding good guy. That being said, most of us think he's made a rhino shit ton of mistakes which have hurt the team in the last 5 years. Mistakes that can actually smell horrible and are quite unpleasant to clean up, that's what I'm getting at.
In short, if we are going to go over this whole thing again, and we probably are, let's just do it here and refer people to this page. I know that there are already some great debates, so if people would like to paste links for those on this page, that would be great. Have at it.
