Have you heard the big news? The Lakers are going to adopt the Princeton Offense! I've been reading about how Kobe Bryant believes the team has to look for a new way to gain an edge in the NBA, so the team's going to convert from Phil Jackson's Tri-Corner Offense to the famous Princeton Offense.
Are you wondering how this offense can really change the Lakers into an even better team?
After studying film and reading up on the style of play for a few hours it does involve some new training: understanding several new passing styles, better understanding and applying foot work techniques, as well as better understanding leverage dynamics. After this, when all is said and done, about +60% of the strategy comes down to three primary plays:
* The Back Door Trap
* Pick and Roll
* And, variations of Screens on Reversals
I suppose that football learned from ballet, so maybe basketball can incorporate theories from Judo, Krav Maga, and perhaps even square dancing, or some ballet as well.
To learn more about the Princeton Offense there are several good blackboard coaching clinics available such as: http://www.coachesclipboard.net/PrincetonOffensePlays.html.
