Jonas Jerebko rumors: JJ downplays being disgruntled

A Swedish newspaper talked to Jerebko, his father and his national team coach when the Pistons visited London. A rough translation revealed Jerebko to be unhappy with his role, and his father hoping to see Lawrence Frank fired. Back in the states, Jerebko downplayed the report, saying the media "probably twisted" the quotes.

Jerebko: 'It's media. They probably twisted it'

Jonas Jerebko spoke to the Swedish media during Detroit's trip to London. So did his father, Chris Jerebko, and so did his national team coach, Jonte Karlsson. That much we know.

What we don't know is what exactly they said -- mostly because we're relying on a rough Google Translation of the article but also because, well, it's impossible to understand the exact tone in which comments were given and whether the reporter sliced and diced quotes to make them sound more inflammatory.

Back in the states, Jerebko was finally asked about those comments -- and needless to say, he opted against trying to explain or elaborate. From Perry Farrell of the Detroit Free Press:

Before Tuesday's game against Orlando, Jerebko said: "I didn't read the story, so I don't know what it said. Everybody has a right to their own opinion. It's media. They probably twisted it."

Speaking of slicing and dicing quotes to make them more or less interesting, here's Vincent Goodwill's quote in his story about it in the Detroit News:

"I didn't see the story so I don't know what's said," Jonas Jerebko said in the Pistons locker room before Tuesday's game. "Everybody has a right to their own opinion."

Same thing, minus Jerebko's shot at the media.

Goodwill is an excellent beat reporter, and it's his prerogative where to stop transcribing. But it goes to show the power that a reporter has to convey tone. Without that last line, I'd argue that Jerebko sounds like he's placing the blame on his father and coach for spouting off. But with that last line, it sounds to me like he's annoyed at the media for making a non-story (breaking! benched player wants minutes!) something bigger.
