According to a report from Vincent Goodwill at the Detroit News, part of Austin Daye's struggles last year were more than basketball related. Daye's mother was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. While Daye's struggles last year were certainly also related to his disappointment with Prince's new deal, this is a good reminder that pro basketball players also have to deal with a lot of stuff outside of basketball, including family health issues, that would certainly affect the work performance of anyone in any profession.
