Stuckey to play against Grizzlies

Mo Cheeks not ruling anything out regarding injured guard.

Stuckey practices, still unlikely for opener

Rodney Stuckey practiced on Monday but didn't participate in contact drills. From Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press:

"Probably not," he said. "I don’t think it would be fair to him to just go out there and jump into the fray like that after being out such a long time.

"I don’t think it’s fair to him, personally."

[...] "Until he plays 5-on-5 with some contact, I think it’s safe to say that he’s probably not going to be out there on Wednesday," Cheeks said. "If he does (today), that changes things."

Fenech reports that Stuckey was also seen working on his shooting, which I suppose is a good thing.

With Brandon Jennings expected to miss 4-5 games and Stuckey sidelined to start the year, Mo Cheeks is undecided on what his starting lineup will look like for the season opener Wednesday against the Washington Wizards. Cheeks did say that he prefers to keep players in the roles they'll be used for most of the season, though, which suggests Will Bynum will remain with the second unit to open the year. We'll find out soon enough.

Update from David Mayo of

Rodney Stuckey went through only limited contact drills on Tuesday, one day after Cheeks said he would have to see the veteran guard go through a full practice before using him.  Stuckey returned to limited basketball activities over the weekend.  He broke his thumb three weeks ago Wednesday.  "I'm going on as if he's not playing tomorrow, so I think that's the best way to do it.  Then if he's ready to play, then we'll go from there."

Stuckey cleared for limited action, no contact yet

Two weeks after surgery on his broken right thumb, doctors are allowing the Pistons' combo guard to increase his "basketball activities."
