The Pistons' new starting point guard will likely miss the start of the regular season with an impacted wisdom tooth and a hairline fracture in his jaw. Ouch.

Brandon Jennings still needs wisdom tooth removed

Oh man, that sucks. This is a complete dental nightmare.

Jennings lost 6 pounds, won't start vs. Celtics

Lose six pounds with this one easy trick: have your jaw wired shut following surgery. Ouch.

Jennings could play Sunday vs. Celtics

Brandon Jennings, who missed seven of eight preseason games following a dental nightmare, could be back in action Sunday when the Pistons face the Celtics.

Jennings out 3 weeks with dental issues

It's a dangerous time to be a guard on the Pistons: first Rodney Stuckey slammed his thumb in a car door (though he might be back by opening night), and now Brandon Jennings is having a dental nightmare:

Fortunately for the Pistons, Will Bynum has played well in Jennings' absence thus far in the preseason. Despite dealing with a hip issue of his own, Bynum has averaged 17 points (.667 FG%) and 8.5 assists in two games, playing 36 minutes a game. For a guy who looked like he was on the rotation bubble just one week ago, he's suddenly a critical part of the equation for Detroit to open the 2013-14 season on the right foot.

Even if Bynum sees a significant number of minutes, will he be the opening night starter? Or will Mo Cheeks go with Chauncey Billups, easily the sentimental choice (and arguably still the most worthy)?

Now your thoughts.

Update: I didn't even think about this until it was mentioned in the comments, but man, I hope this isn't related to Jennings' altercation with The Game at a Los Angeles nightclub in September. Jennings confirmed at media day having an altercation -- he reportedly described it as a "sucker punch" in a tweet, but that tweet has apparently since been deleted. Until we're told otherwise, let's not make any assumptions.

Personal aside: I know more than most how painful a wisdom tooth situation can become when you ignore it for too long -- I personally put off having a tooth extracted for years before my hand was forced following an infection and a trip to the emergency room last December. That sh*t hurts, I wish Jennings the best.

Jennings still out with tooth pain

Brandon Jennings is still out due to pain involving his wisdom teeth, according to Pistons beat writer Keith Langlois. Jennings, who missed Thursday's game against the Heat with the same injury, didn't travel with the team to Brooklyn.

Jennings is expected to be the Pistons starting point guard and one of four new members of the Pistons opening-night starting lineup. It's unfortunate that he won't be able to suit up as this is the best time to establish a rapport with his new teammates. Still, I guess its better to miss time in the preseason than the regular season, especially considering the injury isn't the kind of thing that will linger for much longer.

Also expected to miss tonight are Chauncey Billups and Rodney Stuckey, who is out indefinitely with a thumb injury.

In Jennings' absence, Will Bynum started for the Pistons against the Heat and played 46+ minutes. Tonight won't be so bad for Bynum, as rookie Peyton Siva is expected to be activated for the first time this preseason.
