Bob Wojnowski of The Detroit News interviewed Detroit Pistons owner Tom Gores and part of the conversation dealt with the status of Joe Dumars moving forward. Dumars' contract as president of basketball operations expires in June.
Is Dumars on the hot seat?
Gores: He’s not. Joe and I collaborated on these moves, we talk every other day. He’s done everything we’ve asked, and his basketball organization is really solid. I’m excited where they’re at. I don’t think I could’ve asked for more this summer.
What about an extension for Dumars?
Gores: "We haven’t talked about it. I really respect this about Joe -- his focus is on the Pistons, on winning. He knows we have a job to do this year. The good news is, we’ve done all these move hand in hand."
Gores told Wojnowski that Dumars has not asked for an extension. Nothing may get done during the regular season, however a new deal will likely get finalized sometime before July 1. The Pistons have struggled the last few seasons due to some questionable moves from Dumars, however the last three years he has done well in the draft and finally the team is a contender once again for a playoff spot.
