Maurice Cheeks Might Be The Coach We Have Been Looking For (Or At Least For Josh Smith)

This is my first fanpost so it is not going to be very long. I was reading on MLive about the Pistons training camp and found a very interesting observation about Maurice Cheeks. Here is the quote from David Mayo of MLive "Maurice Cheeks is particularly gentle in how he handles the sometimes iffy shot selection of Josh Smith, which reared its head Wednesday in a scrimmage. Smith shot a long 2-pointer. During a quick break, Cheeks whispered to Smith, then patted him on the back as play resumed. The next possession, Smith scored on a drive into the lane, was fouled, and completed the three-point play. If Smith and Brandon Jennings tame their tendencies to take long 2-pointers, it could help the Pistons' offense immensely. It also was telling to see how the veteran Smith absorbed and implemented Cheeks' instructions -- or, at least, what I'm guessing those instructions were." It shows that there might be hope that Josh Smith can change his shot selection because it seems like he respects Maurice Cheeks. I realize this is just one example and things could very well change once the regular season comes along, but it does give me some hope that things could change and that Maurice Cheeks is the right coach for this team.
