Well, it's been 30 games now. Safe to say the Brandon Jennings and Josh Smith experiment has been a complete and utter failure. I came into this season as an optimist, thinking two guys who have built up their reputations as being chuckers could suddenly reinvent their games for the sake of winning. Boy, was I wrong. Instead, what I have seen is two guys who are hellbent on "getting theirs", trying to "takeover" when takeovers are just not necessary. Needless to say, spending 76 million dollars on guys whose games are 50% long two pointers is not going to win you many games. I'll give credit to Brandon, at least it seems like he's trying to things to help the team win, but he's also became an enabler for Josh's bad habits.
I think it would be in our best interest to take any trade we could get for these guys. I'd take Gerald Wallace from Boston, I'd take Amare from New York, I'd take Kendrick Perkins from OKC. As long as we get guys who understand roles and how to actually play basketball. I call this process "Chemotherapy". After the two cancers have been unloaded, I have several targets in mind for next summer.
First up is Patrick Mills from the Spurs. This year he is making a little over $1 million. He is currently Tony Parker's backup, averaging 17.3 pts 2.4 stl and 3.1 ast per 36 on 46% fg and 42% from 3. His DRtg is a very good 100 and he averages .182 win shares/48. I think he just needs an opportunity and he could be very good ( provided Mo Cheeks is not the coach next year. With the way Chauncey is playing, hopefully he'll just retire and take the helm).
Next is Jordan Hamilton from the Nuggets. He is a 6-7 small forward averaging 16.3 pts 7.9 reb 1.8 ast and 2 stl per 36 on 41% fg and 37% from 3. He has a DRtg of 101 and averages .116 win shares/48. He is kind of a weak finisher, often opting for floaters instead of absorbing contact, but his bread and butter is his 3 point shot, and that's exactly what we'd use him for.
With a lineup of Patrick Mills, KCP, Jordan Hamilton, Greg Monroe, and Andre Drummond, I believe our defense would be vastly improved, and the floor would be wide open for all sorts of Moosey and Penguiny hijinks. Thanks for reading, have a nice day!
