Kobe Bryant nearly traded to Detroit Pistons (in 2007)

Joe Dumars tried to acquire Kobe Bryant before the 2007-08 season, offering the Lakers a package that included Rip Hamilton, Tayshaun Prince, Amir Johnson and a first-round pick. The Lakers were apparently game, but the deal fell apart when Bryant exercised his no-trade clause.

NBA trade rumors: Kobe Bryant to the Pistons? Tayshaun Prince reacts

Tayshaun Prince's reaction to the news that he was nearly traded to the Lakers in 2007 in a deal that would have sent Kobe Bryant to the Pistons (from Vince Ellis of the Free Press):

" ... Kobe would have looked weird in a Pistons jersey. The man has been in the league 16, 17 years. It would be weird seeing him in another jersey, but I'm pretty sure everybody is saying that about me, too. If that was to happen, who knows? Who knows? I'm not going down that road, because it didn't happen."

I've seen stranger things, but whatever.
