Brandon Knight injury: MRI likely for hyperextended knee, no structural damage expected

Ronald Martinez

The second-year guard will miss at least one game and may undergo a precautionary MRI Saturday when the team returns home.

Brandon Knight suffered a hyperextended right knee in Wednesday's game against the Charlotte Bobcats. He's already been ruled out for tonight's game in Indiana, but might he return for Saturday's home game against the Pacers? It's too early to say, and it may depend on the results of an MRI planned for Saturday:

Knight initially returned to Wednesday's game after suffering the injury but was clearly hobbled. After falling again while trying to defend Kemba Walker, he left the game for good. Lawrence Frank explain his rationale Friday for putting Knight back in the game. From Vince Ellis of the Detroit Free Press:

"As a coach, it’s not my decision," he said. "You’re never going to do anything until you have clearance from the medical staff. The medical staff says, ‘Hey, he’s fine,’ then you go. If it’s, ‘Eh, I’m not sure,’ then he’s not going to go.

"That’s why we all have our specialties. I’m not going to start diagnosing knees and ankles and things like that. When someone can play it’s not because he wants to play, it’s because he’s been cleared to play."

By all accounts, this doesn't sound serious. In the interim, it seems safe to assume Rodney Stuckey will get the starting nod, while Kim English will see increased minutes off the bench.
