One of the Pistons' favorite trade partners is looking to make another deal. Will they likely approach the Pistons again? There might be a match relative to salary cap exchange and even a deal that makes sense in terms of adding pieces to each team by position that are in need. Let's explore this possibility:
The Toronto Raptors' are looking to move Andre Bargnani, a power forward/center known more for outside shooting prowess than dominating low post moves. The Pistons I believe are a big man short to afford a good front line rotation that allows Drummond and Monroe to pair up in the starting lineup. Some believe Slava Kravtsov will develop into the player they need, it's also possible that the team will draft a big man to help. Yet, I wonder if Bargnani might be a good option to consider as a veteran with the ability to draw out a big and open the middle for Monroe or Drummond.
Some detractors might say he's another Charlie Villanueva, and perhaps this is a true. His game is much like CV's. Yet, it might be argued he'd be a good pairing with CV to open the floor more for our backcourt to penetrate to the basket.
Using the ESPN NBA Trade Machine Bargnani and Terry Ross, a promising shooting guard would be a match in salary to allow Rodney Stuckey and Jonas Jerebko to be sent to the Raptors. Since the Raptors are looking for significant salary flexibility they would only be on the hook for half a year of Stuckey's salary - a big decline from the $10 mil due to Bargnani for this year and two more. The Pistons can absorb this pay and can look to dropping CV next season for the bulk of their future cap savings. Ross is a bargain at under $2.5 mil and appears to have a very promising career.
If the Pistons find Trey Burke is available in the draft reducing their glut of point guards might be appealing, while adding a talented shooting guard to their stable might be equally of interest.
Imagining the resulting rotation with Burke as the draftee, here's what our rotations might look like:
PG Burke / Knight
SG Ross / Knight / English
SF Singler / Middleton
PF Monroe / Bargnani / Villanueva
C Drummond / Bargnani / Kravtsov
Of course who knows if Burke will fall this far in the draft? Regardless of whether Burke is part of this refit, Bargnani and Ross might be still very intriguing additions to this team. The re-signing of Calderon might make the Burke pick a mute issue, while still clearing the way for Knight to become the team's scoring sixth man option.
