Hello everyone, I'm from Fear the Sword, the Cleveland Cavaliers blog, and I am wondering if you guys could help me out. At FTS, we are doing a community mock draft, in which community members chose teams to represent and to draft for.
I chose the Detroit Pistons, and I need your help in restoring them to their rightful place atop the Central Division along with my own Cavaliers. I chose Detroit because the frontcourt duo of Monroe and Drummond excites/terrifies me, and with a little bit of work I feel that your team could be a dominant force.
We are allowed to make any trades that we want in this mock draft, and I have already done what I consider to be a pretty good deal. I traded Rodney Stuckey, Brandon Knight, and both of your second round picks to the New Orleans Pelicans for Eric Gordon. I think that a healthy and motivated Gordon would be an excellent fit on your team. Let me know what you guys think of that, hopefully I didn't screw up too badly.
Now for the part where I need your help: what should I do with the eighth pick? I was considering Shabazz Muhammad before I acquired Gordon, but I think he is redundant now. I think you guys need a point guard, even though I expect you to resign Jose Calderon (let me know if this is way off). I will take Burke if he falls to 8 without blinking, but I don't expect him to be there. FTS readers haven't really picked him apart like some other prospects because we have our point guard of the future, so his stock has remained high. So my question to you is: if not Burke, than who?
Right now, I like Dennis Schroeder of Germany more than MCW. I have scouted MCW for a few hours in anticipation of this mock draft, and I don't like him. He can't shoot, dribble very well, and finish at the rim. I'm not impressed. Schroeder can't shoot either (per scouting reports), but he has great quickness, is adept at running the pick-and-roll, and is a good finisher in the half-court, not to mention being a terror in the open floor. However, picking Schroeder at 8 feels like a massive reach. As a Cavs fan, I know that "reaches" are all subjective (Tristan Thompson and Dion Waiters have worked out pretty well so far), but I think that this would still qualify.
So, do any of you have any suggestions? I tried to trade back with the owner of the Thunder, but he was not interested. Do any of you have any suggestions that you have batted around these last few weeks? Any help would be appreciated. Also, if you just want to tell me that trading for Eric Gordon was a huge mistake that will ruin your franchise, let me know about it. Thanks for your feedback in advance.
Go Pistons/Cavs, let's return the Rust Belt to national prominence in the NBA
