The Vince's Chat About the Draft

Both Goodwill and Ellis decided to chat about the draft yesterday. The are both named Vince (or Vincent or Vinnie). Coincidence? Probably.

Can we ascertain anything useful from these chats? See excerpts below:

Comment From Mike
You tweeted yesterday that the Pistons may trade the 8th pick. Do you know of any scenarios?

12:01
Vinnie Goodwill:
Not anything in particular. But would they entertain trading Stuckey and #8 for a bonafide player? I believe so

Me: So, just BS'ing, huh Vinnie?

12:06
Comment From Nate Love
All the Mock Drafts I've seen show the Pistons Drafting a point guard. Mostly CJ McCullom, Does that mean they have no interest in resigning Calderon?

12:07
Vinnie Goodwill:
I remember referring to Calderon when he first arrived as "Jose Calderon's expiring contract". Not because he wouldn't fit here, per se, but they have to fill other crucial needs and they still believe Brandon Knight can be a PG...

Me: Dumars letting Calderon go because of Knight? Buffoonery.

12:10
Comment From Marcell
What's your take on Stucky? Do you think Dumars will finally give up on him

12:11
Vinnie Goodwill:
Marcell, I think they're gonna move him. Even though he was truly mishandled by L. Frank this year, there's responsibility on Stuckey too. if only he realized how he almost controlled the emotions of the locker room with his own...

Me: Stuckey "almost controlled the emotions of the locker room with his own"? Lose this guy yesterday.

12:21
Comment From Laz
Do you think Carter-Williams can be a better shooter than he's shown?

12:22
Vinnie Goodwill:
Yeah, I think shooting is a skill that can improve with time and attentiveness to mechanics. Especially having a guy in your own gym every day as opposed to college, where player development isn't really top of mind

Me: Shooting is a skill that can improve because you're in a different gym? Based on what evidence?

12:35
Comment From Jay
Did Roy Rogers want to leave the Pistons, or did the Pistons no longer want him?

12:36
Vinnie Goodwill:
Roy didn't want to go, from everything I know. Seems like a financial decision

Me: Gores can't afford to keep Rodgers? I'm highly dubious.

12:37
Comment From Evan
What secondary player would you like to see gone as a filler piece in a trade? My vote is Jerebko...has a bad attitude and can't play and somehow makes 4mil a year.

12:37
Vinnie Goodwill:
Wouldn't say he has a bad attitude. Just got into a really bad personality conflict with Lawrence Frank and nobody liked how he was treated last year

Me: If "nobody liked how he was treated last year" why didn't SOMEBODY do something about it?

Comment From Sean
Odds the Pistons re-sign Jose Calderon are .... ?

1:02
Vinnie Goodwill:
Less than 40 percent, I think

Me: Motherhumper

Comment From Sean
Is Dumars willing to get very little back in return just to get Stuckey out of the picture?

1:07
Vinnie Goodwill:
No, Don't think Dumars is giving Stuckey away

Me: Yes, he CLEARLY has so much value at this point.

Now for some Ellis:

Can Jerebko, and Singler or even Middleton become starters for the Pistons? I really want to see them be successful in the NBA, but it seems that with all of the talk about the draft (looking for a wing-player who can help spread the floor), that these guys are being lost in the shuffle. Is this an indictment on their ability to become viable starters?
by stevenpw1

I would say the Pistons haven't given up any of the guys you mentioned, but they haven't done anything to make you stop looking for more viable options. Pistons are very intrigued about Middleton. He showed enough last season and with a true off-season to get stronger, the Pistons are eager to unwrap the present come next fall.
by Vince Ellis

Me: Middleton is a present waiting to be unwrapped. Not really a mental picture I wanted.

Hi Vince, What current Piston players do you see NOT being with the Pistons when the season opens? Thanks
by Rhu

Stuckey is the only one I would bet not being here. However, think the only certain guys to be here are Drummond, Monroe, Singler and Middleton with BK right behind them.
by Vince Ellis

Me: So to recap: Stuckey is an emotional leader in the locker room (leading in the wrong direction), and Stuckey is gone, but only for something of appropriate valuable. How about an empty folding chair?

What do you peg the odds of signing Calderon? & What $ value do you think Detroit has him in...
by bajario

I think the Pistons are interested, but what's the price?
A former GM told me Calderon can expect a contract in the neighborhood of 6-7 mill per. Bit pricey, IMO.
by Vince Ellis

Me: How about contract LENGTH, Mr. Ellis? I don't think 6-7M is gonna get in the way for the next couple of years.

There's more to be read, but that was what seemed to pass as insight or analysis. Now your thoughts.
