We are just two hours away from the start of NBA free agency and craziness is already upon us.
The rumor suggesting Lin to Detroit comes from respected NBA writer Ken Berger.
Another possible landing spot for Jeremy Lin is Detroit, source says. Rockets would acquire Jose Calderon in sign-and-trade in such a deal.— Ken Berger (@KBergCBS) July 1, 2013
I'm not sure he was just throwing out an idea that made sense to him or suggesting something based on what sources were telling him.
But it didn't take long for Pistons beat writer Vincent Goodwill to shoot down the rumor.
No truth to the Jeremy Lin for Calderon proposed deal, per sources. #Pistons— Vincent Goodwill (@vgoodwill) July 1, 2013
Buckle up, guys. I think the next few days are going to be crazy.
Linsanity didn't make the trip from New York to Houston but Lin wasn't exactly a worthless player. Lin obviously had to take a back seat in Houston once James Harden got to town and he isn't the kind of player that can sit on the perimeter and catch and shoot. He works best with the ball in his hands and creating for others.
Lin is a superior pick-and-roll point guard to Calderon and that understandably would intrigue any team with Andre Drummond manning the paint. Unfortunately, that is the only area on offense where Lin bests Calderon. Lin is an inadequate deep threat and turns the ball over way too much. He's also just as poor of a defender.
He's still only 24 so I guess you could say there's a bigger likelihood that he could improve but I wouldn't put too much money into that stock.
