He would be a better answer that Shabazz Muhammad st SF and allow the Pistons to draft based on best available player and not reach to fill a need. George plus Calderon added to Monroe, Drummond and either Knight or Stuckey at SG would be a playoff starting five. Signing George would also strengthen the bench by pushing decent quality guys to the second unit, like Singler and whomever the new draft pick is. Re-signing Bynum as a change of pace PG for a fair contract without overpaying wouldn't be difficult to do, and still leave the cash to either sign some depth or hold on to until the trading deadline to absorb more than they send out.
I just don't see how Paul George isn't EXACTLY the kind of player the Pistons would want as their starting SF next season.
