2013 NBA Free Agency: Jarrett Jack viewed as alternative if Jose Calderon bolts

Pistons also talking to Will Bynum about possible return.

The No. 1 option at the point guard position for the Pistons is to re-sign incumbent Jose Calderon, who shined after a mid-season trade from the Toronto Raptors. We know that his return is a priority for the team, but if Calderon is enticed by the chance at post-season glory interested teams such as Houston or Dallas could offer, Detroit is preparing for alternative scenarios.

And those alternatives include Jarrett Jack, according to reports. Jack is coming off a monster year in Golden State, but the Warriors are uncomfortably close to the luxury tax and might not be able to afford him. Jack is apparently looking for something in the range of $6 million per year.

Based on his offensive and defensive abilities I'd say that is a fair price. He's also well respected for his leadership and locker room presence. And Detroit might be an attractive destination for the NBA journeyman as they could pay him his asking price and offer him a starting role on an up-and-coming team.

The Warriors would like to retain his services apparently, though I'm unsure how they'll be able to afford him. He is also being courted by the Dallas Mavericks, Denver Nuggets and Sacramento Kings.

Jack's per 36 numbers look pretty sparkling at 15.7 points, 6.7 assists and 2.4 turnovers. He also shot better than 40 percent from 3, though he only took 2.6 per game.

As previously reported at DBB, Will Bynum's agent is also talking to the Pistons.

Bynum would most likely be viewed as a guard off the bench who could come in right away and lead the second unit. He's familiar with the pieces and after a disastrous start (ahem, What about Will Bynum?), he developed solid, lob-y chemistry with Andre Drummond and played well.

Bynum, a Chicago native, is reportedly also being courted by the Chicago Bulls as a possible Nate Robinson replacement.
