Seven Things I am Excited About For This Season

With the 2014-2015 NBA Season set to begin in a week with the San Antonio Spurs taking on the Dallas Mavericks, the New Orleans Pelicans taking on the Orlando Magic, and the Houston Rockets taking on the Los Angeles Lakers, I thought it would be fun to talk about seven things that I am intrigued by or excited for this season. I am keeping this to seven things across the league that I am excited about, although a lot of these things will be Pistons related. With that being said, let's get into this.

1. The emergence of Andre Drummond. This is already beginning to be put in motion with the season Andre Drummond had last year and his selection to team USA for the FIBA Basketball World Cup. I expect even more improvement out of Andre Drummond this year. SVG seems to want to feature him more on offense by calling plays for him during the preseason, which I am all for. It has hurt his efficiency a bit, so I hope it isn't done as much during the regular season, but it is a great way to develop his post game and make him even more of a dominant force. My prediction for Andre Drummond this season is 16.5 PPG, 14 RPG, 1.7 BPG, 1 SPG, and 59% FG.

2. Cleveland Cavaliers offense. Yes I know that we do not like Cleveland. However I have been hearing a lot of talk about their offense. It is apparently going to be a fast-paced three point barrage, and I am excited to see it even if it is Cleveland. New coach David Blatt is apparently an offensive genius, and I am excited to see just how much the Cavaliers' offense scores. Many people love defense and low-scoring games, but I am the opposite and love high-scoring, fast-paced games.

3. Greg Monroe vs. Josh Smith. It appears only one will start, and it will be interesting to see who that will be once Greg Monroe comes off his two game suspension. It has been pretty clear to me who has been the better player in preseason (hint: that antlered dude), but if Josh Smith plays decent and the Pistons start 2-0 will SVG still move him to the bench? It would be hard to justify if the Pistons start off 2-0. Another related topic to this is whether either big man will be traded. Will Josh Smith be traded, will Greg Monroe be traded, will both be traded? It is definitely somehting to keep your eyes on.

4. How will the Oklahoma City Thunder deal with not having Kevin Durant for a few months? Will Russell Westbrook still be able to keep them afloat and competitive or will they fall apart without their superstar? The Western Conference is already competitive enough, will they still be able to do well enough to stay close in the playoff race so that they can still get in once Kevin Durant comes back? It's very interesting to me and I cannot wait to see how it plays out.

5. KCP breakout year? After a great close to last season and and a dominant Summer League, I was still a bit skeptical about this being a breakout year for KCP because it was just the Summer League and one game. After the way KCP played in the preseason before he got hurt, I think this is going to be a breakout year for him. He can finally put all the hate he gets from him not being TREY BURKE to rest hopefully after he puts together a very strong sophomore season. My prediction for him is 13.5 PPG, 3 APG, 4 RPG, 1.5 SPG, 1 BPG on 46% shooting from the field and 38% from 3.

6. Can SVG end the playoff drought for the Pistons. I've heard many different predictions for how the Pistons will finish this year. From lottery team again, to low to mid seed playoff team, there are so many different opinions. Many people think it will take an absolute miracle for SVG to turn this team around and get them into the playoffs. I have been drinking the kool-aid and I think that it will happen. I am predicting a 44-38 record for the Pistons and the 6th seed in the East.

7. The competetiveness of both conferences. Everybody knows how competitive the West is going to be. It is every year, and I do not expect that to change at all. However, I think the East is going to be a lot better. There are a lot of teams in the East that have improved in the offseason in my opinion, and it will create a lot more competition in the playoffs than the last few years. I do not think that there will be a team below .500 getting into the playoff in the East this year, and I think there is going to be a lot more competition for those bottom few playoff spots.

What are you guys looking forward to this season? Are you looking forward to the same stuff that I am, or other things. Are my predictions crazy or pessimistic? Let me know in the comments, I am very curious to see what you guys are looking forward to. This should be a very fun season and this is about to be the slowest week until the real basketball starts.
