Zach LaVine Is Our Guy

Realistically Detroit will end up with the 7th or 8th pick in the NBA draft, I only see the top 6 as sure-fire stars from the players I've looked at so far. I am getting into the mid first round prospects and after watching underwhelming players like Marcus Smart, Rodney Hood, and Wayne Selden I ran into a guye I hadn't heard much about, Zach LaVine. I knew he was supposed to be a great athlete but I didn't know how he played. I try not to check prospects stats and just go off of how they look or feel and this guy feels like the REAL DEAL.

Lavine is bouncy, he is the Andre Drummond of PG's (Maybe a SG but I'll get to that later) he soars through the air, runs like a deer, has great lateral quickness. I like how he handles the ball, he doesn't get many turnovers and has the ability to create his own offense. I would project him as a possibly elite defender, look at what Michael Carter-Williams does and imagine a guy longer and more athletic . I wouldn't be surprised if LaVine can add 40 pounds though as he is a rail thin 6'5" 180 Lbs.

There are a couple things I don't like about Lavine, I don't think he is an elite distributor which is difficult because a great floor general would really help Drummond. But I feel like Drummond and LaVine are an amazing fit, a pick and roll of these two would be deadly, LaVine is an elite jump shooter so if you lay off he knocks down a jump shot, if you trap him he tosses it down to Drummond for an easy score, If you switch LaVine will blow by the big man for a monster dunk.

One other issue I have with LaVine is his feel for the game, sometimes he'll have a wide open teammate and just be pounding the ball, sometimes when he's playing off the ball he just stands around. LaVine needs to have a more team oriented game.

Overall I really really like LaVine, if I was going to compare him to an NBA player it would have to be Russell Westbrook who also went to UCLA. LaVine thrives in a high paced game, he definitely needs to get bigger, tougher, and have that Alpha-Dog mentality but with his athleticism, ball handling, defense, shooting and the fact that he may be the best athlete I have ever seen play a college game make me feel like he could be a big time difference maker if Detroit can get the 7th or 8th pick.
