Hey, guys and gals. This is my first fanpost and I'm writing about the struggles of everybody's favorite draft pick from last year, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. A few other boards that I participate on have taken quite a bit of time ridiculing KCP for his lack of a stat in one game (going 16 Trillion or whatever) and his overall effort since being benched. I haven't seen much here on DBB about this, so I thought I'd start a Fanpost to gauge everyone's opinion. And btw, I'm not stat guy (not that I don't love stat-guy, because I do), so I apologize for not having posted any.
I think KCP's struggles are pretty much expected and normal for a rookie shooting guard. Over my 30 years of watching NBA basketball, it is my assessment that most rookie shooting guards struggle to find their shot in their rookie seasons. Some find it late in the season as we saw with former Pistons rookies like Allan Houston and even Aaron Afflalo. However, fans are impatient and somewhat unrealistic when it comes to how they feel a rookie should be producing. I do see a level of defensive intensity from the kid though: getting his hands on loose balls, playing passing lanes pretty well and playing very good one-on-one defense. I just think most of the criticism is unfair and very harsh. What do you guys think?
