I've been fooling around on the NBA trade machine and wasting time lately, and I was wondering If anyone had any opinion on a Kyrie Irving trade.
Firstly, do we want Kyrie Irving? I'd say yeah, given that he's one of the best point guards in the league and is an all around stud. Maybe he's a bit whiny at times, but who wouldn't be if they were playing in Cleveland and had to watch Dion Waiters play defense all day.
Secondly, is Irving available. There have been rumors that he has wanted out for a while now, that being said it's rare to see a guy leave a team while he's still in the rookie deal/ bird years stage of his career. It would certainly take a lot of ammunition to acquire Irving.
Thirdly, do we have the necessary pieces to entice Cleveland into giving away their best player. This deal would have to involve Greg Monroe, probably KCP, another one of our young players (Singler or Jerekbo), and any number of draft picks. Let's say the 2014 first rounder and a 2016 first rounder, maybe insert a second rounder somewhere if necessary.
Finally, do the Cavs take this deal. Probably not, but I like to think they would so we could have a good point guard. If they did take this deal then I would offer it immediately.
PG- Irving, Siva, (hopefully not Bynum), Jennings
SF- Singler, Datome,
PF- Smith, Jorts, Mitchell
C- Drummond, Jorts, free agent
In case you didn't notice the roster is pretty depleted after that trade, so we would presumably have to hit the free agent market for a few players. I'd love to have Lance Stephenson. This would also open up any future deal for Jennings, even though 8 million isn't an "absurd" number to pay a backup or 6th man. So...
