I know it’s useless to cry over spilt milk, but what if each franchise had the opportunity to redo a past mistake that proved almost fatal to the team? What if Detroit had the chance to right a wrong it thought could never be changed?
It is the year 2014 and the Detroit Pistons are experiencing some intense post-apocalyptic shit. A once proud and strong franchise built upon teamwork and defense is now a team in turmoil, and is without an identity to speak of. In 2004, Mr. Joe Dumars III did what no one else did in the modern NBA, which was to construct a championship team without a single superstar. The team flourished as a contender, thoroughly dominating the league with its first class defense, but somehow it failed to replicate its almost improbable feat.
Determined to find a cure, Dumars sought out what he felt his team lacked all these years: The Superstar. It was the beginning of the end when in 2008, court-general Chauncey "Mr. Big Shot" Billups was traded for what was thought to be The Answer. Instead, fatality struck from within, ranging from Buffoonery and to other bizarre free agent signings.
It is the year 2014, and the Sentinels have taken over. Known collectively as The Jith, these two players have done everything in their power to limit the potential of the two brightest stars right now in Andre Drummond and Greg Monroe.
In his dying breath, Mr. Dumars had decided to step down from his post, thus admitting to all his wrongdoings. But almost as a last resort, he decided through his power of Hindsight, to go back in time and possibly stop all of this from happening. No Answer, no Buffoonery, no Jith. With his powers weakening and age a proven factor, Dumars knew he could not go himself. When all hope had seem lost, out came the immortal, Rasheed Wallace, one of the old stars who donned the Pistons Blue. Sheed volunteered to be the one sent back in time.
Now of all the past mistakes, which one should Sheed change? While it might seem obvious to go back to where it started in 2008, it could mean that neither Greg Monroe nor Andre Drummond would become Pistons. Instead, would it be the Summer of 2009, or the Gordon – Maggette trade, or the Jith signings? What Would Sheed Do?
