Gigi, Jonas and Summer League

About a month ago there was some confusion about what Gigi would be doing this Summer. It all started with an article in the Detroit Free Press from beat writer Vince Ellis, indicating that Gigi would not be available for summer league.

Preparations for the FIBA Basketball World Cup will begin soon, and Datome is looking forward to having good results in game action. And then it’s back to proving he can play in the NBA.

Italy is not playing in the FIBA Tournament and I thought it was a mistake by Ellis and that he confused this reason for Gigi going to Italy with Gigi's commitment to Basketball Without Borders, hich would end before Summer League.

Recently I was reading the latest Pistons Mailbag where Keith Langlois said the following:
I don’t know which of the team’s younger veterans will accompany the group to Orlando to participate in practices before games start, but it wouldn’t surprise me if anybody under contract shows up at some point. Datome is one notable exception. He has national team obligations for Italy that begin on July 1.

After reading this I went to the Eurobasket website and found out that Datome will be participating in a qualifier for the 2015 Eurobasket tournament lasting for four games from August 13th-27th. Here is the site

After reading that I thought maybe Jonas could be in the same boat and found this:
Bosnic was aiming to detect the intentions of the 27-year-old Detroit Pistons forward with regards to upcoming summer's crucial EuroBasket 2015 2nd Qualifying Round campaign, and was certainly not happy with the reply he received from the other side of the Atlantic. "I've talked briefly with Jonas," Bosnic told Swedish website "His response regarding the national team was a 'no'. "He has decided to focus on the NBA summer camps instead."

So we know Gigi, against my hope, will not be available for Summer League and it looks like Jonas is trying to make the best impression for SVG.
