Beating Switzerland comfortably 80-65, the Italian National team punched its ticket to Eurobasket 2015 and a 3-1 record in the 2nd round qualifier.

It was Detroit Piston, Gigi Datome, who put team Italy on his back and led his squad in minutes played (32), points (24), and 3 pointers made (3-4) while shooting 81.8% from the field overall and chipping in 7 rebounds and 2 assists, while committing 3 turnovers.

Gigi finished the 2nd round qualifier with averages of 29.8 mpg, 16.3 ppg, 52.3 FG% (23-44), 52.9 3PT% (9/17), 90.9 FT% (10-11), 6 rpg, 1.8 apg, and 2 turnovers per game.

The 4 games played were all against Russia and Switzerland. Russia featured NBA players Timofey Mozgov and Sergey Karasev while Switzerland was without its only NBA player Clint Capela who injured his groin in the first game against Russia.

While four games is a small sample size I'm relatively encouraged and hopeful that this less rigorous schedule gave Datome some confidence and practice while not taking as much of physical toll as last year's 11 game Eurobasket Final round schedule. Hopefully this means Gigi will come to camp fresh and ready to contribute.

So DBB, what say you?
