Ish is one of the top few playmakers in the NBA

Is that a bold statement? Consider the following.

Ish has averaged 6.4 APG, which he gets on an AST% of 32.4%. One very nice thing about Ish is he can do that without generating a lot of turnovers--he only has 1.5 TOPG, on a TOV% of 11.5%. This is not a fluke--last year he got 6.5 APG to 2.3 TOPG, with AST%/TOV% of 38.3/14.4.

So, do you know how many other players have gotten at least 6 APG, with an AST% of at least 30%, and a TOV% no higher than 15%, both last season and this season? Exactly two--Chris Paul and Isaiah Thomas. Goran Dragic is also doing it this year so far, but didn't manage it last year. Mike Conley, Stephen Curry, Jrue Holiday, Damian Lillard, and LeBron James did it last year, but so far are falling short this year. And one more person did it last year but not this year--our own Reggie Jackson.

Obviously Ish is not a perfect PG because of his shooting issues. But he is in fact excellent at playmaking, and I think at least average and maybe better on D (I don't trust any individual defensive stats, but he is the starting PG on a top 5 NBA defense, and to my eye he is holding his own out there). So if he can just keep his shooting in the maybe-not-great-but-not-a-disaster range, he could be a really nice backup PG, one of the top few in the league.
