You're all insane

This team as constructed is in year two of existence. I'd like to repeat that, year two of its existence. Andre Drummond is 23, Tobias Harris is 23, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope is 23, Reggie Bullock is 25, Stanley Johnson is 20, and Henry Ellinson is 20. Those are kids fellas, years away from their primes, and all under team control for the foreseeable future (Bullock and KCP are restricted free agents next year, so Detroit holds rights of refusal). Reggie Jackson is 26, Marcus Morris is 27, Jon Leuer is 27, and Ish Smith is 29, they are all under contract and in their primes.

Now correct me if I'm wrong here, but you don't just put a team together and go win a championship in any scenario other than having a dominant all star (Paul Pierce) on your roster, trading for two All-NBA players (Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen) and drafting a perennial all-star point guard outside of the lottery (Rajon Rondo), you just don't, they had to have young talent and draft picks accumulated by sucking to make that magic happen. What you do is put together players to grow into their primes together, make some free agent signings or trades to supplement that core, and grow together by playing games and practicing, see Golden State, that wasn't a two year plan to build that roster, good drafts, trades, signings and a lot of luck conspired to build that juggernaut.

So why as a fan base that watched two separate championship teams evolve from garbage to champions are we expecting this team to already be winning 50-60 games a year, and young players play basketball like heady veterans in their primes? The Bad Boys and the GTW teams both were stuck on 45-50 wins a season before breaking through into championship contender status, why does this current team not get a prolonged growing period before we expect greatness from them? Neither of our championship contending teams were in serious contention with a slew of under 26 year old players comprising their cores, why should this one be anything other than inconsistent? Young teams need time, lots of time to develop their offensive and defensive schemes, leadership structures and on court communication, you guys, this version of the Detroit Pistons are in their infancy, we haven't even let these guys go through adolescence as a team and we seem to think they should be a top four team in their conference!

I'm reading terms like "let's blow this thing up", and I think, seriously? Blow what up, you blow up a contender that is aging or just hasn't gotten the job done yet after multiple tries, you don't blow up a young, talented roster in its infancy, that's just quitting and starting over, and with the level of patience the DBB Community seems to have, what would be the point? Drafting in the top three every year hoping to get a bonified stud superstar and then getting all pissed off when he doesn't deliver a championship before he's eligible for his first contract extension?

So fellas, relax, enjoy the highs of this team, lament the lows, and enjoy the journey, you don't fall in love with the Bad Boys without getting beat up by Atlanta, then Boston, and then the Lakers, you don't feel like the Goin to Work Pistons are part of your family without losing Grant Hill, embracing Big Ben, getting dissed by the media and getting whipped by the Nets. It's about the journey. Otherwise, follow LeBron James' teams and Kevin Durant's teams, you just want to win without hardship.
