[...] Sure, we may have lamented that Maurice Evans had squeezed Detroit Bad Boys' adopted son Carlos Delfino out of rotation spot. But Miami Vice was once again inserted into the game ahead of Mo on Wednesday. Flip commented after the loss to the Nets on Sunday that Evans was only held out from that game due to “matchups” (according to Fred McLeod, during the Dallas game). But digging deeper, could Flip be flopping on his previous rotation decisions? Before tonight's game, Vice has played more minutes in each of the last three games. Well, before you (and by you, I really mean Matt and I) get all giddy, keep an eye on Delfino's playing time after tonight's game. Flip was pretty quick to yank him against the Sixers after he left Kyle Korver wide open for three in the second quarter, and Mo Evans responded with energy while taking the bulk of the backup small forward minutes afterward.
[...] Other subplots worth noting: Maurice Evans — who we recently surmised had taken Carlos “Miami f’n Vice” Delfino’s rotation spot, pulled down the dreaded DNP-CD tonight, his first of the season. While “Vice” only saw six minutes of floortime himself, he did have time to contribute a block and a steal while drawing the unenviable task of guarding Vince Carter. Also, the Pistons string of offensive woes continued with a 34% shooting night (including 3 of 17 from three). Offensive rebounds — of which the Pistons pulled down 17 — made this game much closer than it could have been down the stretch. It seems that as of late, championship defense and efficient — even just adequate — offense is an either/or proposition. The Pistons have not played a complete game in some time.
[...] Delk, he of the funky-looking jumper and double-zero jersey, has shot a more-than-respectable 10-21 over the last two, including 5-6 from three. In just over 18 minutes per, he averaged 13.5 points, 3 boards, and 2 assists and did not turned the ball over. In other words, he's the anti-Lindsey Hunter. And it now looks as if he's going to start taking Lindsey's minutes. Flip had this to say about Delk's emergence at backup point, as well as about the ongoing Miami Vice v. Maurice Evans battle at the backup 2/3 (from MLive): "That'll all play out in the next 5 1/2, six weeks," Saunders said. "Some guys are going to get some opportunities, and we'll have to wait and see who steps up." [...]

[...] This game also marked the debut of new Piston Tony Delk, who played 10 minutes and contributed two points and two assists. He helped out on defense and overall looks like he could be a solid contributor the rest of the way. Maurice Evans only played seven minutes — all in the second quarter — but he was very productive with four rebounds and a steal, which led to a fastbreak in which he scored two of his four points. I'm not sure why Flip Saunders didn't put him back in the game in the second half, but it may have been a combination of Seattle's 8-2 run to start the third (which put Detroit back under the gun) and the fact that Tayshaun Prince's defense was needed on Rashard Lewis. Sadly, DBB favorite Miami Vice earned the dreaded DNP-CD.1 [...]

[...] Beating the dead horse Did you notice that Miami Vice logged 19 minutes last night? He was on the floor during a couple of the team's best runs, and again made key hustle plays while taking care of the ball. I know that our praise of him on this site has reached comical proportions, but he isn't an arbitrary choice for the love. Both Matt and I feel strongly that he's going to be a big part in the continued success of the Pistons, so watch now to see the humble beginnings of greatness. [...]
