Matt posed the question at the beginning of the month; who is your most hated Piston rival? Well, after the success of the last poll, we’ve decided to put this issue to a vote as well.
Your choices…
1) Miami Heat. Kazaam and Dwayne Wade have never been prone to passing too much credit the Pistons way, and their playoff-esque celebration after the recent win in Miami was as annoying as ever. Also, let us never forget that this team employs Alonzo Mourning. That should be worth a significant bump in the polls by itself.
2) Sacramento Kings. Is this the perfect storm–the most hated player in Detroit sports hooks up with one of the most hated franchises? The Kings were barely a blip on the radar before they trashed tha D in a bush-league pre-game video montage of burnt cars and abandoned buildings. They topped it off by adding Psycho Ron. Now every Detroit fan revels in the Kings’ demise.
3) Los Angeles Lakers. Mamba may be the biggest reason to hate on the Lakers now, but let’s not forget how arrogant and flashy Showtime has been ever since the days of Magic, Worthy, and Kareem. Even Kurt Rambis infuriates me to this day.
4) New Jersey Nets. Perennial whiners Richard Jefferson and Jason Kidd were joined last season by Vince Carter (after he started tanking games in Toronto, forcing them to trade him for 50 cents on the dollar). They have a little leprechaun named Lawrence Frank as coach. And annoying shots of Jason Kidd’s son are a featured attraction during any national telecast. I hate this team.
5) Indiana Pacers. They were public enemy #1 for any self-respecting Piston fan during all of last season, but has the trade of Ron Ron and their substandard performance since softened this rivalry? Perhaps Jermaine O’Neal’s recent comments will keep the hatred burning hot.
6) San Antonio Spurs. They’re a team that evokes such hyphenated phrases as “Hard-working”, “Fundamentally-sound”, and “Team-oriented.” Nothing to stir the inner hatred so far, right? But how about the words “NBA Champions” and “Manu Ginobili“? That do it for ya? Thought so.
Vote for your most hated in the poll on the right, and then tell us your reasoning in the comments section.

I don’t like Stephen Jackson & the Pacers in general (never liked Larry Bird), but I do like Jermaine O’Neal’s game…regardless of his mouthing-off. I wouldn’t mind seeing him as a Piston…not that that will ever happen.
The Heat, hands down. There’s nothing better than beating Shaq.
So, can I add another poll? What Pistons paraphanelia should I wear the to the Pistons/Wizards game in March?
a. T-shirt: “My other man is Tayshaun”
b. T-shirt: “My other man is Rasheed”
c. T-shirt: “Chauncey Super Fly”
d. T-shirt: “Ben Super Fly”
the thing that gets me most irritated during games is, hands down, the flop. Wade does it a fair amount, but I kinda like D-Wade when he’s not playing the pistons. However, Ginobili gets me pissed everytime he drives. The hair flying, him throwing his weight around with reckless abandon. And the fact that they give him the free throws every time. I’m getting angry just thinking about it. And I can’t really figure out why I don’t like Tony Parker. It might just be the whole playing for the spurs thing, but also: Does anyone know how he got someone like Longoria? I mean, come on!?
oh. and then there’s bruce bowen. nuff said. it’s the spurs for me.
Katie — definitely B! And if you’re there with Dan, have someone take a picture!
I’m with Matt on this one, although I’m going with a. Katie has always had a bit of a thang for Tay Tay.
Hate the Spurs. Doesn’t matter who they are playing, Doesn’t matter if they are even playing Miami (well that might be a little extreme), HATE THEM WITH A PASSION.
Ginobli sucks and whines when he doesn’t get his way, Parker has a chick who is way out of his league, and bowen looks like he isn’t even right in the head half the time.
In short, the spurs could lose every game in the remaining weeks of this season, and it still wouldn’t serve enough justice to the entire team.
Katie, you have to go with D!!
No one can even compare to Big Ben
But I wouldn’t say no to B either.
The Nets.
Hate them so much. Made me so happy when Tay told RJ what he could do with his comments
Had to vote Pacers. There is something special about beating that team. Carlisle, Bird, maybe I’m just a Detroit Bad Boy at heart.
@katie - have you considered option “E”? “My other man is themicrowave.” LOL.
My vote is for the Spurs: Tim Duncan is a horse’s ass, and I say that from personal experience. The NBA hired me during the ALL-Star game in 2001 to be a translator. Long story short — Tim Duncan APPROACHED ME as he made his way to his limo with his fiancee at the Four Seasons. I explained why the tickets for his family were not at the hotel (all the other players except Robinson were at the Hyatt with player packages). Anyway, after a long apology and explanantion to Tim — he just walked away. Did not even have the social graces to say ‘thanks’ for trying to contact me all day, yada, yada. To his fiancee’s credit, she then stayed to apologized for Tim. I felt like saying to her:
Is that what you plan to do for the rest of your life — apologize for Tim’s poor manners???
But I bit my tonque. I hope the Pistons TAKE IT TO the Spurs, if they meet again in the finals. It made me sick to my stomach that the Pistons lost in 7 games!
I’m not sure if Tim is even still married to the same woman (who was stricking in her appearance) but my question is:
How could you wake up to THAT every morning???
