[...] Last month, I posed the question: does the mainstream media steal from blogs? On Wednesday, ESPN Radio's Colin Cowherd answered with an empatic "yes," lifting almost word for word a fake Wonderlic test from The M Zone, a Michigan football blog. By now, Deadspin, YAYsports! and countless others have weighed in. I've already talked about this type of stuff much more than I'd like to, but it's yet another example of how those in the mainstream media1 often misunderstand, look down upon or generally take advantage and appropriate material from those who write on the internet.
[...] Remember how I suggested last week that writers in the mainstream media might troll blogs for fodder? Well, it appears members of the mainstream media cannibalize each other, as well: this article by Israel Gutierrez of Knight Ridder Newspapers so closely resembles this article by Steve Luhm of the Salt Lake Tribune I'm confused. Am I missing something here? // Used for showing and hiding user information in the comment form function ShowUtils() { document.getElementById("authorinfo").style.display = ""; document.getElementById("showinfo").style.display = "none"; document.getElementById("hideinfo").style.display = ""; } function HideUtils() { document.getElementById("authorinfo").style.display = "none"; document.getElementById("showinfo").style.display = ""; document.getElementById("hideinfo").style.display = "none"; } [...]

[...] First, DeadSpin linked to it, which creates an avalanche of traffic (not to worry…BfloBlog has the best of hosts, so no server issues). Then other bloggers fed off the story, which created some very intelligent talk out there. It even got linked by Boston Sports Media Watch, which has a reputation for bringing down a media member or two. [...]

Nice work. I think mainstream media has a lot of theft between competing media outlets by less than ethical reporters. Now that blogs have become nearly mainstream, they'll be stolen from as well.
