[...] What I'd really like is another one of those classic Bill Laimbeer/Rick Mahorn posters. I used to have one, but after hanging up in my old bedroom for years and then making two moves with me in college, it became so torn and tattered that I eventually had to just toss it. You don't even want to know what I'd do to get another one in mint condition. Does anyone have a lead on where I can find a re-print? [...]

[...] Considering our love of all things Bad Boys around here, the comment was intriguing (especially since the story got no immediate play in the local papers). But today, the Detroit News gives us a bit more detail: [Rick Mahorn and Bill Laimbeer] reminded the crowd in the third quarter not to be disruptive or unsportsmanlike, per NBA rules. It's the same rules that are read aloud at every NBA game. Except Laimbeer and Mahorn put a new spin on them. [...]

[...] 2:36 — Joe Smith with the airball as the shot clock expires. Way to go, el cap-i-tan. During the dead ball, TNT shows Ben, who currently has 2-7-2, and runs a segment on selfless players on great teams. They show Wes Unseld, Bill Russell, Paul Silas and… Charles Oakley, who is shown battling against Laimbeer for a rebound. Someone remind me, Oakley was a selfless, hard-working player for what championship team again? Lambs should have been featured in that slot. Whatever. [...]

[...] We got a little nostalgic last week reminiscing about Bill Laimbeer and the rest of the old school Bad Boys. But of the current Pistons, no player more closely embodies Laimbeer's attitude and spirit than Rasheed Wallace. Plus, long-time fans can't help but see the similarity in their games: their both big men with three-point range, which has always been a rarity in the NBA. In fact, you could argue that Wallace is the player that Laimbeer would have been had he, you know, been born with actual athletic ability. [...]

Farlane--

What I remember most from that series is the Danny Young three-pointer after the buzzer that would have tied Game 4. That had to be momentarily painful for you especially, being in Portland at the time.

In 1990 I was living in Portland, OR and remember whooping it up in the bar I worked at when the Pistons took game 5 while my Blazer-loving friends cried in their beers. The Bad Boys were one of the best teams ever - thanks for a great post.

Triple Threat, I couldn't agree more. Laimbeer and Rodman were definitely great defenders and rebounders despite personal limitations--Laimbeer gave up some athleticism, Rodman gave up size--but they both had the ability to take the opponent off his game with their tenacious, and sometimes dirty, style of play.

How many highlights have we seen from that era of an opposing player losing it and taking a shot at the Pistons. Bird, Barkley, Parrish, McHale, Cartwright, A.C. Green, Rambis--the list goes on and on. Psychologically, the Pistons were just tougher than anyone out there.

It was unfortunate that the championship run had to end with them walking off the floor before the final buzzer after being swept by Jordan's Bulls. But the writing was on the wall by then--the new NBA rule changes at the time were instituted solely to stop the Pistons style of play and to put the limelight back upon the star of the league.

I'll forever blame Jordan, with Stern in cahoots, for the premature downfall of the Bad Boys, and for the inexplicable snub of Isiah for the Olympic team in '92. Piston fans should have had the chance to celebrate their biggest star on the international stage, and we were robbed of it because one rival (Jordan) couldn't suck it up and play with another (Isiah).

Lambeer was definitly great in respect he had great heart for the game and was relentless and did not take nothing from nobody. Lambeer and Rodman, what great defenders and rebounders. If anyone hasnt seen that team play you need to order or go find some videos of games in their entirety. We are very lucky to have Joe Dumars as our president of basketball operations as well. He was part of a special group of players and knows what it takes to put a championship team together. I really hope he stays with the Pistons for a VERY long time. Props to Joe Dumars! Lets just hope that orlando trade produces a high draft pick. *prays*
