What if the players voted for MVP?

Percy Allen of the Seattle Times has a great idea for settling the MVP debate: locking the candidates in a room and having them vote on it:

Chauncey Billups: Hold up. This should really be a no-brainer. I’m doing the same thing Nash did last year and he got the trophy.

Wade: Yeah, and we all know how that turned out. My boy Diesel got robbed.

Nash: I didn’t rob anybody. Besides, have you seen my squad? Joe Johnson and Quentin Richardson, gone. No Amare [Stoudemire]. Thank goodness for Shawn [Marion].

Bryant: Don’t talk to me about carrying a team.

Wade: Hey, I’m lugging a 7-1, 325 dude on my back.

Great stuff. Read the whole column to see how Allen has the players voting (hint: I think you’ll be happy).

This was awesome! What a funny image.

I think Chauncy is as deserving of the MVP as anyone…however, deep down, I don’t want him to win. Does this seem weird? I just get a feeling if he DOESN’T win it he’ll be on more of a mission during the playoffs. Gut feeling is all. The Pistons have used the “us against the world” to perfection over the years, and with all the media love they’ve gotten lately, the team needs to become more creative in re-inventing this. An MVP snub, in my opinion, would be a good start. What do you think? Am I crazy?

I see what you mean Deho75. I want Chauncey to win, because he’s a great player, deserving, and of course, a Piston, but there is a part of me that likes the idea that the Pistons are a team that has no player who is more valuable than the next. And, like you said, the Pistons play well as the unrespected/underdog.

While they are rarely considered an underdog now, I do feel they are largely overlooked by the media because they don’t have “THE SUPERSTAR”. I remember after our last convincing win over Miami, they showed about 6 different D.Wade highlights at the end of the game-maybe one from the Pistons. It’s all that kind of stuff that annoys the heck out of me. I could go on and on. NO RESPECT!!
