Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?

(Confused by the title? You don’t know your movie trivia…)

Antonio McDyess contemplates losing Game 5

First, a lesson in history:

  • May 2, 2003 — St. Petersburg Times: Magic adding finishing touches against Pistons

The Magic team looking to eliminate the East’s top seed, the Pistons, in tonight’s Game 6 at the TD Waterhouse Centre, is different. Because this is a team that knows how to win in the fourth quarter and finish off an opponent, Tracy McGrady said.

Game 6 final score: Pistons 103, Magic 83

  • May 16, 2004 — North Jersey Herald: Nets: Skip the trip

Mere hours after the Nets enjoyed an epic and historic triple-overtime win, they were back in the gym, watching film and shooting free throws. Rest for the weary - and extremely happy - was not an option as New Jersey prepared to close out this series against the Pistons.

Lost in the splendor of Friday’s instant classic that introduced Brian Scalabrine to the people of Detroit and made his legend grow in these parts, is the fact that the Nets are one win away from their third straight trip to the Eastern Conference finals.

Game 6 final score: Pistons 81, Nets 75

  • June 4, 2005 — Associated Press: Eastern Conference finals; Heat lead 3-2

In what has developed into a back-and-forth series, the Heat used a huge run to close the first half and received strong performances from several sources in an 88-76 victory in Game 5 on Thursday.

The win moved Miami within one victory of the franchise’s first NBA finals appearance where it would face San Antonio.

Game 6 final score: Pistons 91, Heat 66

  • June 20, 2005 — San Antonio Express-News: Spurs go up 3-2 in series

But in the end, Robert Horry hit a monster three-point shot with 5.9 seconds remaining in overtime that turned out to be the difference.

The San Antonio Spurs beat the Detroit Pistons 96-95. The Spurs lead the best of seven series 3-2. Game 6 is Tuesday at the SBC Center.

The Pistons haven’t won a game in San Antonio since 1997.

Game 6 final score: Pistons 95, Spurs 86

Hey, the Pistons have backed themselves into a corner! I think this means the playoffs have officially started.

There’s not much to be said about Game 5 that hasn’t already been covered by the legion of readers that descended upon this post, but here’s my take: I expected the Pistons to come charging out of the gate, but instead it was more like a crawl. Whatever happened to home court advantage? The crowd at the Q was electric from tip-off to the final buzzer in Games 3 and 4, and I fully expected the Palace faithful to match that energy. Instead, I saw empty seats that didn’t fill up until well after the game started, by which time the Cavs had already successfully dictated a slow pace to the game.

It seems like the complaint du jour about the Pistons is that they’re not as strong defensively as they have been in the past. That may be true, but looking over the box scores from each game, I couldn’t expect the Pistons to play the Cavs any tougher. I know I’m glossing over some situational difficulties, but the Cavs have averaged just 84.5 points per game, and LeBron James is the only player causing problems game in and game out. When another player has come through, it’s simply been a matter of hitting a timely shot — a Damon Jones three-pointer here, a Donyell Marshall three-pointer there. Drew Gooden’s layup in the final seconds won Game 5 for the Cavs, but he finished with all of four points, and was in the game only after Zydrunas Ilgauskas and Anderson Varejao each fouled out.

Chauncey Billups and Rasheed Wallace watch from the sidelinesNo, the criticism I have with the Pistons are their incessant turnovers — they committed a whopping 17 TO’s on Wednesday night (or 21, if you want to count the four times Ben Wallace went to the free-throw line and failed to hit a single shot in seven attempts). Chauncey Billups led the entire league with a pristine 4.11 assist-to-turnover ratio in the regular season, but there he was on Wednesday committing six turnovers (including over-thrown passes on two potential fast breaks) with just five dimes. And is it too much to ask for the team to make a crisp pass now and then? Rasheed Wallace and Tayshaun Prince each had a couple of soft lobs snagged out of the air, with Prince’s final turnover resulting in Billups having to foul out of the game with two minutes left in order to stop LeBron from scoring on a fast break.

Perhaps part of the reason the Pistons are turning the ball over so many times is because they’re suddenly trying to execute a foreign offense. Remember how the Pistons used to swing the ball to the open man? Now everything has to be a one-on-one contest. I’m sorry, but Rip Hamilton can’t create his own shot. He’s at his best when he’s coming off a pick and releasing the ball almost as soon as he catches it. He’s a self-admitted rhythm shooter, and when he’s forced to dribble six times before shooting he’s going to turn in games like Wednesday when he shot just 5-16 from the field.

On a brighter note, call off the search party because Antonio McDyess found his shot. He opened the game 0-4 from the field in the first three quarters, but he was huge playing the entire fourth quarter, scoring all 11 of his points by going 5-5 from the field with six boards and two blocks. He finished with 11 boards and three blocks for the night. With Rasheed only playing 22 minutes due to his injured ankle as well as foul trouble, McDyess gave the Pistons a solid 27 minutes.

All in all, the Pistons won the battle of the boards (47-44), committed fewer personal fouls (21-27), had one more assist (16-15) and shot for a better percentage than the Cavs (42.7% to 38.3%). Despite being down for much of the game, the Pistons were not dominated; they simply couldn’t get over the hump in the final minutes. Had Billups not fouled out, I think the Pistons would have pulled it out. But thems the breaks: when you play as sloppy as the Pistons have the past three games, you can’t count on luck being on your side in the final minutes.

For all the “youth” that Cleveland has, they have a couple of battle-tested veterans who have experienced first-hand what the Pistons can do in the playoffs. Drew Gooden was a member of that 2003 Magic team that blew a 3-1 lead to Detroit, and Damon Jones was knocked out of the playoffs by Detroit the past two years as a member of the Bucks and Heat. But when it comes to experience, nobody can beat the Pistons, a team that’s played in more games the past three years than any other team in the league.

Detroit has played 10 “win or go home” playoff games since 2003, and eight times they’ve emerged with a victory, losing to the Nets in the Eastern Conference Finals in 2003 and the Spurs in the NBA Finals in 2005. Furthermore, they haven’t lost four games in a row since January 2005. Not only is it possible for the Pistons to stretch this series to seven games, at this point it should probably be expected.

Oh sure, it won’t be quite as easy as I make it sound, but I have to imagine the Pistons’ experience playing with their backs against the wall has to count for something — just three extra points in either of the last two games would have been enough for the roles to be reversed with the Pistons nursing a 3-2 series lead.

And if the Pistons can’t pull it out on Friday . . . well, how ’bout them Tigers?

Encouraging post…I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.
We’re still in this thing! Now go out and win one for all the small schools that never got a chance to be here!

  2. 2 Robbie

    WIN IT FOR BLAHA!

  3. 3 farlane

Kenny suggested the Pistons try to win a game or two with defense. I think if we can hold to that strategy, we can send those darned Amish Assassins home for the season.

  4. 4 Rhondda Nunes

like the idea of winning 1 with ‘D’…how ’bout winning it all in d’…?

    it’s the “D’ etroit tradition…

Workin’ hard every night like the workin’ stiff….

No Creampuffs & La-La softies here. Straight.

  5. 5 Michael

Great post, very encouraging when I’ve been pretty mad about this entire situation.

    And nice title too, haha.

  6. 6 Jack

Sorry to spoil your title, but it was the Japanese who bombed Pearl Harbour, don’t you think?

  7. 7 Ree

    Hey Matt,

love the post, but one thing though… it wasnt over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbour coz well they didnt do it.

    the Japanese bombed them..lol

but after the game all i kept thinking between sayin out loud that we actually lost game 5(still feels unreal this morning) was how they were down before.

i hope they wake up soon. it was heartbreakin last night.

  8. 8 The Desert Fox

Your Pistons have gotten too damn confident and thought after the first two that it was all over, that would explain the Palace’s lack of energy. The Cavs are a nasty team at home and I look forward to a Phoenix / Miami NBA Finals series. Records are made to be broken. Bye bye Detroit LOL.

    The Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?

  10. 10 LA Mike

    Hey Einstein/Ree,

It was a quote from Animal House.

  11. 11 Ree

    LA Mike…

sorry never seen the movie… in that case — its the germans.

  12. 12 tiff

    Thanks for the encouraging post.

The thing that bothered me last night, wasn’t the score, it was the LACK OF HUSTLE. These are not our feisty-us-against-the-world deee-troit pistons. Hopefully tomorrow, they will be.

  13. 13 tiff

And I apologize in advance for the double post…but that shot of Dyess last night after the game? Heartbreaking.

  14. 14 farlane

That shot was heartbreaking. Antonio has been in the NBA so long and really, really wants a ring and dammittal, I really hope the Pistons wake up in time to help him get it.

btw, great Animal House reference, Matt.

Bluto (Belushi): Over? Did you say “over”? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!

    Otter (Tim Matheson): [whispering] Germans?

Boon (Peter Riegert): Forget it, he’s rolling.

  15. 15 Dan

Win one with ‘D’? They held the Cavs to 82 PPG over the three losses! They would have won at least one of those games if they had just cut down on turnovers.

I am hearing a lot of blame being placed on Flip, people saying they want LB back. Since when is LB a great situational coach? Does anyone remember Chauncey getting his shot blocked by Bowen at the end of Game 7 last year, apparently not realizing Bowen had switched assignments? How about ‘Sheed missing the assignment on Horry in Game 5? Or the Pistons failing to foul Shaq when he had the ball at the end of Game 2 the year before, with Detroit up by 3?

There have been too many end of game miscues by the Pistons the prior 2 years to assume things would be different right now with LB. Has everyone forgotten the constant drama? I think Detroit was successful in spite of LB, regardless of what happens in this series. Flip is just a convenient scapegoat. The assist-to-turnover ratio for Detroit is the culprit - it has suddenly plummeted. Why? Why are we suddenly throwing so many errant passes? Why aren’t we swinging the ball around the perimeter like we did in Games 1 and 2?

My guess is fatigue. LBJ is going back and forth along the perimeter, using screen after screen. Each time this happens, Detroit rotates defenders to cover. They are covering a lot of ground in the process. I don’t know that they have much choice. You can’t let LBJ get into the paint and start getting into a rhythm. In fact, as I noted, their D has been fantastic, considering that they’re defending one of the best offensive players in the game. But it takes a toll.

  16. 16 Tim

The turn overs and offensive rebounds absolutely killed them, the Cavs shot 9 more shots . Also 2-10 shooting from beyond the arc isn’t getting it done. Shooting 64% from the charity stripe is also a recipe for disaster. Most of that was from Ben Wallace, but still even 2-7 shooting would have left it a tie ball game, and if he can’t make at least a few free throws then during critical times he needs to be pulled, especially when both of the Cav’s big men were sitting.

I hope they can pull out the win but I’m afraid the Cavs are in their heads. They seemed to have a defeated attituded. Its going to take an aggressive, confident team to take the last two games of the series.

  17. 17 Magoo

June 4, 2005 — Associated Press: Eastern Conference finals; Heat lead 3-2.

Wait, there was something different about that game - I can’t quite place what it was…something about the other team’s best player not playing? So is Bron Bron going to get hurt playing video games and not play in game 6? That entry needs an asterisk at least. It diminishes your argument.

  18. 18 Need4Sheed

    Matt,
I think you cheered me up. Thank you!

  19. 19 Also A Witness

Hey Pistons fans, how’d that game 5 taste??? Hope you enjoyed watching the final home game of the season last night…

    YOU ARE ALL WITNESSES…

I do like the Animal House reference though.

  20. 20 Go Cavs

    Pistons fans-

Honestly, I wouldn’t throw in the towel yet. Around the league, and probably moreso in Cleveland because of the proximity, you are still regarded as one of the best teams around. As a Cleveland fan, years of bitter disappointment have cautioned me to only enjoy triumph when I actually see it. I’ve gotten a kick out of reading all your posts the last few days, it’s fun to see all the panic and fingerpointing. I agree with many of your suggestions on how to stop the Cavs– especially going back to single coverage on LeBron. The Cavs record is absolutely horrendous when LeBron scores 50 or more points (something like 1-5, couldn’t find the actual statistic). The reason: The rest of the team just stands around and watches Lebron go i.e. no ball movement. However, that was when the Cavs seemed to depend exclusively on their leader. All of a sudden, and I’m not sure what made the light turn on, we are playing team basketball. As much as everyone talks about LeBron he is not winning the series. 15 points from Donyell, 16 points from Varejao, 12 (!!!!) from Eric Snow and 3 pointers from Damon Jones are winning the series. The Pistons, miraculously, gave every role player confidence in themselves this series, even the slumping Z. True, everyone can make open shots, and single coverage on LeBron may change that, but as soon as LeBron puts up 25-30 in one half do you think Flip will stick with that formula? Pistons have a tough road, but they’ve done it before. Who’s pumped for Friday??

  21. 21 farlane

Asterisk, Shmasterisk Magoo. Wade gets hurt because he throws his body into situations where it’s likely to get broken. Sheed got hurt because he lost focus. Injuries are part of the game. Great teams and players rise above them.

    Also A Witness :
I’m not a Witness. Unless it’s “Witness to the NBA Marketing Machine building up His Franchiseness” you’re talking about.

Don’t get me wrong. LeBron is a fantastic ball player. Spectacular. Amazing. Faster and stronger than any player I have ever seen. But no way in hell am I gonna worship him in this NikESPN Sternian Lovefest. Even if he does win. I am a fan of the game. The hype is to captivate people who don’t know jack about basketball.

    Witness that.

  22. 22 Brad Bice

Excellent post. The ‘05 East Finals have been in my mind all along, and it’s the only thing that’s kept me from weeping uncontrollably.

  23. 23 jez

As an Englisman I can only admire the new Pistons attitude, it is only a game afterall. Well done for giving someone else a chance, very sporting.

  24. 24 Big Ben Fan

Have been following the Pistons since the Bad Boys era. I’d have to say this is a combo of bad coaching and lackadaisical attitudes. I don’t feel Flip is a bad coach but in Detroit it takes a certain kind of coach to keep the Pistons in check. There are lots of big personalities and ego’s on the roster and that is going to put the nail in coffin on Friday. Billups is a great player but lately he’s been expecting wins instead of earning them, along with Sheed.

I won’t discredit the Cav’s they’re playing with tons of spirit and have a great leader on the court. Lebron is controlling the game and setting the pace for the starters/bench, which is something Billips use to do. Now with that being said, if the Pistons stuck to their core, they would have been done with the series with game 4. They proved to us in the regular season they have what it takes to win championships, but it’s a different mentality in the post season.

Face it, the Pistons lost their swagger, and they’re one game away from putting up their GONE FISHING signs. Here are a few major issues that need to change by Friday or we’ll see the Pistons at the fishing docks. First Billups needs come back to reality and kill the pompous attitude. Sheed needs to hold back the negativity and ego till they start proving they’re a championship basketball team. Third, Rip needs to really focus and ignore the noise and somehow bring back his fast paced game. Fourth, Flip needs to start taking these games more serious and stop letting Billups calling the shots.

If there’s one player on the Pistons who deserve a Championship ring, it’s Antonio McDyess. He’s the only player that’s playing true Detroit basketball (Go to work). I will say the last few games Prince has been going to work also. Heck lets not forget about our bench, where the hell is another hard worker, “Delfino and Delk”? Come on Flip, Delfino would be a great weapon to battle Lebron, and Delk brings good energy to the team. I would almost bet if Flip gives the hard working bench a change to shine, you might just seem them pick up the slack and bring it home for game 7.

Lastly, if the Pistons lose, don’t discredit the Cavs. They playing great b-ball and deserve to be where they are. My only beef with the Cavs is that annoying Brazilian, what a drama queen. If the Cavs do make it to the next round, that’s going to be one kiss ass series. Lebron vs Wade, two young guys with lots of passion and energy for the game. To bad they couldn’t trade McDyess to a team that cares about the team and not about themselves. We will see on Friday, hopefully the Pistons bring back their swagger.

  25. 25 Also A Witness

Hey farlane, YOU ARE A WITNESS, like it or not, to the best player in the NBA, and you are also a witness to what happens when his supporting cast steps up, they beat teams that are “supposed to win this kind of series in 5″

    Hell yeah Z!!! 14 points, 10 boards, 6 blocks…

Hey Rasheed, open your mouth again…

Hope the Pistons enjoy watching the Eastern Conference Finals from the comfort of their own homes.

  26. 26 Also A Witness

By the way, great picture of McDyess wondering where it all went wrong at the top of this page.

  27. 27 Russ

Also A Witness: The Cav’s have a chance to win the series. But don’t put yourself in a position to eat crow. As much as I want the Cav’s to win (and believe they can), I wouldn’t go around saying that the Piston’s will be watching the Finals from home. That could come back to bite us in the ass.

  28. 28 Also A Witness

I know, Russ, the Pistons are a great team and you really can’t count out a team with that much playoff experience. I just like talking trash to their fans…

    WITNESSES, all of you.

  29. 29 Big Ben Fan

I can’t say I will be surprised if the Cavs make it to the next round, the Pistons will only have themselves to blame. PERIOD…

What’s freaky about this whole series is the owner of the Cavs, Dan Gilbert also
owns Quicken Loans/Rock Financial. Which Rock Financial is a sponsor of the Pistons.
I’m sure you’ve all seen those Rock Financial commercials with David Hall. Wonder how
that is all going down behind the scenes.

  30. 30 Go Detroit!

    No more isolation.
    No more turnovers.
    No more worries.

    Detroit in 7 games.

Cleveland fans will bear witness to LeBron leaving for the big lights of New York when his contract is up.

  31. 31 Boney

I admit it…I am a witness. I’m a witness to this series not being over yet. Last time I checked you need to win 4 games to win an NBA Playoff Series. If you’ll remember the last few seasons that Detroit plays their best basketball when people aren’t counting on them to do anything. I’m not guaranteeing a victory by any means, I’m just saying that this team was built on their hardnosed defense and has won the ugly games before. Just think…If Ben hits any of his 4 free throws down the stretch or, if Billups doesn’t throw 2 of those fast break passes off of a steal into the crowd how much closer that game would have been? I agree, it shouldn’t come down to nit-picky plays, Detroit is clearly the better “team” in this series. The crowd would have blown up if 1 or both of those turnovers on the fast break would have resulted in a dunk. Then the game would have been totally different…LeBron gets flustered in pressure situations (see first half, Game 4..multiple turnovers), I think if the crowd got back into the game at any of those 2 fast break moments that it would have solely put the pressure back on the Cavs and it would have made LeBron press.

I hate watching Pistons games where I hear the crowd chant “Detroit Sucks” or “Beat Detroit” because that’s what I was chanting when Detroit was playing the “unbeatable” Lakers in 2004. Everyone counted out my boys in that NBA Finals series, and to me, they beat them in all 5 games. Even when LA was down 3-1 everyone was saying “all they gotta do is get it back to LA”… I want to see Detroit come through and pick up Game 6 and then pound them in front of the home crowd in Game 7. I’m not guaranteeing it, but I’d like to see it…and I think it can be done.

  32. 32 TVBrain

Go Detroit! You’re right about LeBron leaving for the bright lights of the big city. God knows he’s not getting enough attention in Cleveland.
And to the fans who’ve corrected the Pearl Harbor quote, go get Animal House and don’t come back until you’ve seen it twice.

  33. 33 C Sims

I’m no history buff, but I think Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. But no the war was not over then, and this series is not over. Go Pistons. IT AIN’T OVER

  34. 34 Russ

As for LeBron leaving Cleveland when his contract is up… I DOUBT it. If you’ve been watching him play since he started, you’d have heard him say Cleveland is the only place he’s ever wanted to play. He’s got a $100 mil. contract with Nike. I don’t think he would ever leave Cleveland for the money. He’s in it to play the game, to get respect for the great player he is, and to play with a team that can grow and make it to the Championship. I think we can all agree that the Cavs have made great strides in the past couple of years.

So yea… I think he’s in Cleveland for the long haul.

  35. 35 Also A Witness

Hey Boney, it’s probably a good idea to not guarantee a victory, let Rasheed do that for you…he he he

And did you actually say that Detroit is the better “team” in this series??? The Pistons bench sure showed up last night, until McDyess’s fourth quarter they were pretty much no existant. On the other hand, Donyell Marshall steps up, Damon Jones hitting a few key shots…Varejao playing harder than ANY of the Pistons…

Also, LeBron gets flustered in pressure situations huh? You obviously didn’t watch any of the Wizards/Cavs series.

You will all continue to be WITNESSES.

  36. 36 Also A Witness

Hey CSims, like TVBrain said, go get Animal House and don’t come back till you’ve watched it twice.

  37. 37 Go Cavs

Even if LeBron is in it for the money Russ the Cavs can offer him more money than anyone else under NBA rules. Basically the rumors of him leaving for New York, which all logical people have dropped at this point, are based on typical pompous New York attitude that everyone wants to go there. Do you think anyone in their right mind would leave one of the best teams in the NBA for the absolute worst? Oh yeah, only former Pistons do that. How did that work out for Larry Brown anyway?

  38. 38 Angela

OMG does Nike have a deal with the devil??? The Witness campaign is getting out of control…

I thank God I am not a Witness.

  39. 39 Also A Witness

Face it, Angela, YOU ARE A WITNESS

  40. 40 The Desert Fox

I think that pic up top says it all, you lot were smart asses then to stir up the Cavs, you pay the price now.

  41. 41 Witness

The Pistons lost by two points last night.

How many Tech’s in the fourth? Oh yeah, 2.

One by the coach and the loud mouth.

    Smart basketball guys.

As far as Lebron leaving, he’s from Akron, his family is in Akron, and he loves playing here. He has said he wants to be like Bird and Magic and play with the same team for his whole career, more than once.

Strap in guys, its gonna be a long ride.

    Go Cavs baby,

    We are all WITNESSES.

  42. 42 tiff

Honest Question: Are Cavs fans getting paid to spread this whole “Witness” thing around the globe?

  43. 43 Carey Anderson

Matt blogs like this is the reason I check your site 3 to 6 times daily. You really know basketball. I hate when people make comments and hate on the Pistons who don’t know shit. Yes I am mad as hell, however not mad to the point where I can’t see passed the real problems with our team. The turnovers. The missed open shots. The one on one basketball. Sheed being hurt. These are the real problems. I know the past two years no one really picked the Pistons to win. I really think this really helped fire up and drive our team. This is the first year where you had more people picking us to win. Maybe we got the big head. Well its do or die. My question for you Matt is is we lose to the CAVS what will Joe D do? I mean Ben is a free agent, however is he getting to old where he can’t really make a impact on the game like he has the past 2 years. Don’t get me wrong I love Ben, but he looks like he is getting slow out there. Ok lets play Detroit Basketball! I will see you guys later during the game.

  44. 44 Also A Witness

Hey tiff, we do get paid to spread the WITNESS thing…we get paid in the satisfaction of being witnesses to the best player in the NBA. And now, YOU ARE A WITNESS.

The party’s gonna be in Cleveland tonight, hope to see everyone down there!!!

We will all continue to be WITNESSES.

  45. 45 Boney

I don’t know what to say really. 48 minutes till the biggest battle of our professional lives. It all comes down to today. Now either we heal as a team, or we’re gonna crumble. Inch by inch, play by play, till we’re finished. We’re in hell right now, gentlemen. Believe me. And we can stay here, get the shit kicked out of us, or we can fight our way back into the light. We can climb out of hell. One inch at a time.

Now I can’t do it for you. I’m too old. I look around, I see these young faces, and I think… I mean I’ve made every wrong choice a middle-aged man can make. I pissed away all my money, believe it or not. I chased off anyone who’s ever loved me, and lately, I can’t even stand the face I see in the mirror. You know when you get old in life, things get taken from you. That’s part of life. But you only learn that when you start losing stuff. You find out life’s this game of inches. And so is football. Because in either game, life or basketball, the margin for error is so small. I mean… one half a step too late or too early and you don’t quite make it. One half second too slow too fast, you don’t quite catch it. The inches we need are everywhere around us. They are in every break of the game, every minute, every second. On this team, we fight for that inch. On this team, we tear ourselves and everyone else around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches, that’s gonna make the fucking difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying! I’ll tell you this - in any fight, its the guy whose willing to die who’s gonna win that inch. And I know if I’m going to have any life anymore, it’s because I’m still willing to fight and die for that inch. Because that’s what living is! The 6 inches in front of your face…

Now I can’t make you do it. You’ve got to look at the guy next to you, look into his eyes. Now I think you’re gonna see a guy who will go that inch with you. You’re gonna see a guy who will sacrifice himself for this team, because he knows when it comes down to it, you’re gonna do the same for him.

That’s a team, gentlemen. And either we heal, now, as a team, or we will die, as individuals. That’s basketball, guys. That’s all it is. Now, what are you going to do?

LET’S GO PISTONS FANS! PICK YOUR HEADS UP! THIS SERIES ISN’T OVER! I DON’T WANT TO BE A WITNESS TO ANYMORE LEBRON DRIVES TO THE BASKET WITHOUT HIM BEING THROWN TO THE FLOOR! IT’S TIME TO PLAY DETROIT BASKETBALL “BAD BOY” STYLE! LET’S BRING IT BACK TO OUR HOUSE FOR GAME 7! DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEETROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOIIIIIIT BASSSSSSSSKETBALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL! 46. 46 Also A Witness

Boney, you will always be a WITNESS. Now witness the end of the Pistons ‘05-’06 season tonight.

  47. 47 Angela

TIFF — I was thinking the same thing!!!! HAHAHAHAH!!!!! They say YOU ARE A WITNESS or I AM A WITNESS like we have witnessed the second coming of Christ…I mean, what is the BIG DEAL?!

Queen James is no better than Allen Iverson, Kevin Garnett or all the other superstars!!! Yes he is a superstar, and every step he makes is sponsored by some kind of shoe or soda. But what else has he done??? Does he have a ring??? An MVP award?? Or even a college degree???

It ain’t over ’til it’s over…and Queen James is a good player, but I know he will never convert me to being a witness of whatever denomination he represents. LOL!

And what’s up with spelling it with a capital ‘W’???? It’s not even grammatically sound…LOL.

  48. 48 JackDutch

God, there is REAL money to be made if you’re a WITNESS: Vega$ STILL has the Pistons favored at -5 (????) in your building. In the QLA! Obviously, Vega$ has completely ignored the past three games. Sincerely, if I was a WITNESS, I would be putting down some heavy cash. You could totally pay for your little WITNESSES to go to Cleveland Area Community College (CACC) in one basketball windfall. Do it! Get to a bookie now! I’m not joking. Do it!

  49. 49 Angela

JackDutch — OMG that’s awesome!!! Go witnesses!!! LOL!!!!!!!!!

  50. 50 The Desert Fox

What are all you Detroit fans on? “Queen” James? I hope you get your asses kicked tonight and that way “Queen” James has the last laugh.

  51. 51 JackDutch

Man, I wish I laid down some sweet green on that game. Pistons won, but Cavs covered. Best of both worlds. If you’re a Pistons fan/degenerate gambler.

  52. 52 Angela

QUEEN JAMES WAS CROWNED TONIGHT!!!!!!!! WAHAAHAHAHAHAHBEAHAAHAHAHAHHA!!!! :P

  53. 53 The Desert Fox

Oh well too much to hope for but still … you guys have a rocket put up your asses to teach you to not be over-confident.

  54. 54 Boney

    Also A Witness,

I witnessed great defense last night at the end of the game when LeLeadsWithHisOffArm drove the lane on 3 possessions and was either fouled, blocked, or the ball was snatched from him…The Bad Boys are back…WITNESS Game 7 blowout

  55. 55 Kwame

Hey Cleveland, Witness this! go home you hacks.

  56. 56 scherzo

detroit sux… if a low-class team like cleveland gave them a hard time…

second and third are no better than last… even if you’re the fourth greatest team right now.. you’re no different from cleveland…

    we’re both losers… so don’t talk big…

and past is the past… don’t go on talking about rings… ‘coz u only got it from a kid who was only about 18 yrs old at that time… if LeBron was like, 21 at that time, he might have kicked ur aZz…

don’t look back at the past, i challenge you, how about the future?

let’s just see who wins the championship this year…
