[...] The last time these two teams played, the Pistons held the Cavs to a meager 61 points in Game 7 of last year's Eastern Conference Semifinals. The Cavs set an NBA playoff record with just 23 points after halftime, including just six from LeBron James, and for the game Cleveland shot just 30.8% from the field. For Pistons fans, it was a cathartic end to a brutal series that clearly caught the hometown team by surprise. For the Cavs, it was a historically brutal end to an otherwise solid season.
Here's a prediction for the Heat series - Dwyane Wade makes a ridiculous, high-risk play and ends up breaking his back, but pulls through and makes more ridiculous high-risk plays. Another prediction - Gary Payton will annoy me. There is no way this Piston team can beat the Heat, last year all of their starting five were diagnosed clinically dead before the series even began. They still forced a game seven though.

Absolute "Whew!" I would like to thank the guys for giving me that Game 7 blowout a la NJ in '04 and Orlando in '03. Thrilled by Tayshaun's emerging importance to this team. They posted him up in the second half it seemed about 10 straight times. And he absolutely rung it up. He was the best Piston in this series. And he seems to have become Flip's security blanket. He may be the difference-maker in getting us back to the promiseland. As far as the entire team, GREAT job on the boards finally, and what can you say about the defense, except they set about 4 records today. The second half was a thing only Detroit fans could truly appreciate.

Here's what I'm hoping for the Miami series:
-A week off makes the Heat rusty, not rested.
-We realize that free throws are the easiest thing you can do in a professional basketball game
-Sheed and Rip stop aggravating their gimpy ankles
-Somebody shows Chauncey tape of the 2003 Finals where he absolutely USED Gary Payton and he returns to the MVP candidate he was this season
-Dwyane Wade doesn't become Lebron Part Deux.

"Tayshaun is not a prince, hes a king!"

My wife filed for a copyright on that, Matt. I'm afraid we'll have to sue you. ;)

The pistons played D, hustled and reaped the reward.

I will get out my Antoine Walker pinata - if you hit it, it doesn't drop candy but it does blow apart in pressure situations.

Pistons finally bounced out of their rut. Granted, it's not like they shot the lights out but they ran their sets and got good looks. They did what was expected on defense and on the boards. It would have been a bigger blowout a lot earlier if we hit our FT's and took care of the ball a little better.

Let's face it. For a club to beat us, they have to bring their A game AND hope we play poorly. And even in those cases, there is a good chance that we pull it out. That's what happened from the 4th quarter of Game 2 to the 3rd quarter of Game 7.

We can't expect things to always go our way but that was a long streak of crap play. Let's hope it's out of thier system.

I did not think this would go 7 games, but I will take it. Tay showed the world why Joe D did not take Melo a few years back. I hate that he had to play the whole game, but we needed him in there. I hope our boys understand we can't play the same way when the Heat come to town. The Cavs really played some D, which I don't think Miami will play that hard on that end of the floor. Where are all the Cavs fans now? Great job to Flip! He did a great job by making some minor adjustments. Whats wrong with Dice? We need him to play smarter. Last thing and I am out. I love Sheed! But sometimes I wish he would just shut up and play ball. And stop shooting those 3s when we don't need them. Look for Rip and Mr. Big Shot to shoot better from the floor agaist Miami.

I told you guys, the pistons will blow out on game 7 with everything... They will bring back their defense, which is a major factor in their game... and they will dominate the game... In the 1st half they were just warming up and playing pretty balanced, till the 2nd half they got banana's and tore the roof off the palace... As the KING faced his worse nightmare and a PRINCE had risen amongst the many to protect its throne...

GOOD GAME ! peace

What a game! :) I agree with Matt here.

The Prince of the Palace proved once again why he is important for the Pistons success. Offense, Defense, hustle plays...overall great effort.

Hunter pretty much started the run in the 3rd that got the Pistons the lead.

Great defense, keeping the Cavs to 30% FG, getting them a new record for lowest points in a game 7 and bringing back some painful memories to the Heat players.

My favorite part of the game today was in the final minutes when the game was pretty much decided- ABC had to play catch-up and show the pistons lot's of respect, rather than the usual Lebron worshiping. I was really impressed with Lindsey Hunter and Tayshaun, they got the pistons back in this one when it really mattered. Can't wait for the next series, let's hope the free throw percentage is much better!

I'll sum up my thoughts in one word: whew.

I've been up in Northern Michigan since last week, sans Internet for the most part. But it has been great to read all your comments to get a feel for what the die-hard Piston fans were thinking throughout the series.

Now onto Kazaam and the Heat.

Tom: Even as a big Pistons fan, I cringe when people use non sequiturs against LeBron. He may be overinflated, but he's not overrated, if that makes sense. It's incredible to watch him play, learn and improve. Moreover, he has a great personality and the consummate player who just wants to become better.

He'll never make it through the Pistons without some support, just like Jordan. I feel great about this win, but imagine if the rest of the Cavs would have got some buckets to drop. We might have been biting our finger nails at the end. LeBron is somewhat responsible for that and getting his players involved, but when they get good looks and miss, the blame lies on their shoulders.

I'm so excited to see this win and to see the Pistons of the regular season return. Let's keep it rolling against the Heat!
