Ben Wallace making both free throws - anyone remember the last time it happened?

  2. 2 P

I’m not sure the Pistons stand a chance if the Heats shoot even 50%, much less 85%. This is ugly. Better hope at least one of their players goes cold

  3. 3 JackDutch

More specifically if bums like Haslem, An-twat, and Pen-stealer Williams are shooting 85%, then this shouldn’t even go past the half.

  4. 4 JackDutch

Can’t give up 100, boys. Tighten it up. Tighten it up ALOT.

  5. 5 Krasimir

They’ll make a run now in the beginning of the 2nd.

Things aren’t looking so bad. Williams and Haslem can’t shoot like this all night, DWade’s not doing anything and Shaq will get tired soon. 70% vs 35% shooting, 12 to 6 rebounds and they still only lead by 5.

  6. 6 P

“You see Wade grimacing a bit after that play” ~Mike Breen

    No kidding.

  7. 7 Krasimir

I wish they could go back to hitting 35%, they actually had a chance then.

  8. 8 farlane

    “Much improved Heat defense”

    Discuss.

It looks to me like the Pistons are getting WIDE open shots and just woofin’ them.

  9. 9 JackDutch

We’re actually UNDER 30% shooting right now.

  10. 10 JackDutch

Still, can’t believe only down 5.

  11. 11 Fadel

We’re getting stops and converting offensively at least. I like the pace.

  12. 12 Michael

I’m no basketball maven, but can someone explain why we’re waiting 10 seconds before starting a play or making a pass? Is it just laziness or a lack of urgency? Where’s the up tempo play that helped us take Game 5?

  13. 13 Krasimir

When Jason Williams is 5/5 against you, something’s VERY wrong.

  14. 14 JackDutch

BTW, the fact that Chauncey isn’t DEE-stroying defensive schlub Jason Williams and defensive shell-of-former-self Gary Payton on a nightly basis in this series is one of the true disappointments of the postseason. Somewhere far below that we might lose to the Heat in the ECF.

  15. 15 aRChPoPoY

down 11…. they really want to make this harder than it already is huh….

  16. 16 JackDutch

We’ll be lucky to hit 40 by the half.

  17. 17 aRChPoPoY

    13………….

  18. 18 JackDutch

I’d give my right one for a 10-0 run to end the half.

  19. 19 aRChPoPoY

    cmon teammmmmmmmmmmmm

  20. 20 tbranch

apparently all we can do is toss up 3 point attempts with over half a game to go. Boys in blue better get some sort of actual plan together.

  21. 21 JackDutch

I would say they can’t play worse, but I’m sure these imposters could find a way.

  22. 22 Fadel

oh boy…….I’m panicking for the first time in the playoffs.

  23. 23 P

Down 11 and Dwy-ane has been a non-factor… once he gets it going in the second half this will be over shortly :-/

  24. 24 Michael

Fadel: I feel like I’ve been panicking since Game 3 against Milwaukee. This just isn’t the team we watched the first half of the season.

As much as I love our Pistons, I don’t see them overcoming themselves and the Miami Heat in the second half. It’s sad, but, their play doesn’t have win written on it. Where’s the urgency?

  25. 25 Robbie

    This is a sad display

  26. 26 tbranch

I bite my tounge as I say it but…
Ever since the guaransheed loss, the pistons have played horrible. Even their wins have featured adaquate play at best.

  27. 27 kartgo

DRIVE TO THE LANE dammit. Come on guys, where is the intensity, the energy. I better see a better second half. DRIVE TO THE LANE. Get Shaq in fould trouble and convert the free throws. Thats what you did in Game 5, do it now. LETS GO PISTONS!!!

  28. 28 tbranch

If the pistons are down big with under 2 minutes to go I guarantee that sheed gets T’d up…. maybe even ejected.

  29. 29 JackDutch

This isn’t a 64 win team. And I think it’s not so much the failed Guaran-sheed game, but more that it coincided with Rasheed turning his ankle. Ever since then he’s been a non-factor. He’s gone over 16 points just once. Reached double-figures in boards once. He’s struggling, and he’s the guy who gives us our “mojo.” I was hoping Arnie would loosen his bandages or whatever voodoo he did to Rip in Game 5 of the Milwaukee series after his sprain, but it looks like even Arnie couldn’t fix it. Just go BALLS OUT in the 2nd half, boys. Ain’t no tomorrow.

  30. 30 aRChPoPoY

Ladies and gents, sad to admit it but i dont see this turning around….

and this is happening without D. WADE.

i dont know, i lost my hope

  31. 31 JackDutch

it’s one of those games that will get cut to 7, then balloon back to 11 or 13, then cut to 7 again, but never really be in any doubt.

  32. 32 Krasimir

Another foul by Shaq soon might turn the game around

  33. 33 aRChPoPoY

    thats true….

  34. 34 JackDutch

Live by the three, die by the three. There’s a reason that’s a cliche.

  35. 35 Michael

Oh, good choice Flip, throw Delk in there after giving him inconsistent minutes. I hope Tony plays well, but what the hell is Flip thinking with his substitution scheme!!!

  36. 36 P

Flip is thinking that the rest of the team can’t hit the broad side of the barn anymore, which is pretty much true

  37. 37 JackDutch

I’ll say this for Flip. He’s not shooting 30% from the field. But neither is Chauncey. He is instead shooting 18%.

  38. 38 Lindemann

Typically it is necessary to make shots in order to win basketball games. This is where the Pistons are lacking this evening.

  39. 39 aRChPoPoY

there goes the 4th foul.. now all we need is for Zo to drop dead and die
    hehe

  40. 40 aRChPoPoY

    15…………..

  41. 41 tbranch

suddenly the pistons double their total offensive boards in one possession and deal kazzaam his 4th foul… this could get good

  42. 42 tbranch

’bout time to pull delk and let delfino miss some shots.

  43. 43 aRChPoPoY

    nineteeeeen.

    F&CK

  44. 44 Krasimir

    That’s it I guess.

Who hasn’t tried his shooting yet? Delfino?

  45. 45 Michael

I’m throwing in my towel. We can’t turn around three quarters of bad play in the fourth. Not with Sheed and Dice injured and little contribution from the bench.

This would feel like a heartbreak if we hadn’t gone through so much pain watching the Pistons lose focus at the end of the regular season and stumble throw the playoffs.

    Crap, we’re goin’ fishin’.

  46. 46 aRChPoPoY

I remember the Phoenix game when they were down by about the same margin and they went back….

I’m not saying it’s gonna happen. I just remembered it suddenly. hehe

  47. 47 P

hell, give maxiel a try. can’t do much worse than sheed

  48. 48 Krasimir

It would be interesting if they’ll blame the coach again :-) Perhaps if they hadn’t worked so much on their offense….

  49. 49 tbranch

They might blame Natalie for not doing something opposite today.

  50. 50 Bob

long time Pistons admirer. Saunders has done a putrid job this postseason. It took them 10 games to start pushing the ball up the floor against two teams that are not good defensively.

Nice job by the Heat, too bad would’ve liked to see Dallas/Detroit.

  51. 51 Tim

Send some flowers the team is done.

  52. 52 P

Well, time to admit the Heats are significantly better than the Pistons

I guess the light at the end of the tunnel is that Chauncey, Rip, and Tayshaun all have several good years ahead of them. And Shaq has to wear down eventually, right? Unless some other team in the East makes a blockbuster move, I don’t see any team aside from the Heats being dominant in the near future. So even though this looks like a repeat of the ‘91 Pistons, they at least have some hope of being a decent team for a while, although probably not a championship team again.

  53. 53 Tim

    Mavs over Heat in 6.

  54. 54 aRChPoPoY

woohoo hack a shaq till the buzzer sounds? might just work….

  55. 55 aRChPoPoY

    It’s over.

  56. 56 Bonzi

    :( I hate that fat f**k!

  57. 57 J Dot

The way I see it…none of this matters. I honestly believe Dallas is going to steamroll either one of these teams.

    RIP Detroit :(

  58. 58 Bonzi

    Shaq and Williams 22-25 FG
    Detroit 24-72 FG

    Hm….

  59. 59 Michael

Miami, show some mercy! Stop taking threes.

  60. 60 Michael

Did I just hear the Big Ben bell at the AA Arena?

  61. 61 Jack

    sad

  62. 62 Matt Watson

First member of the 2003 draft to go to the NBA Finals? No, it’s not you, Wade. Darko went two years in a row, you dumb shit. (For those that missed, he said that in the post-game interview…)

  63. 63 Robbie

He has a really low IQ outside of basketball you can tell in how he speaks. If he didnt have basketball skill he would probably be a garbage collector or possibly a fry man at mcdonalds it depends on the situation.

  64. 64 HP

Wait, what? Wade SAID that’s he the first go to Finals? or the Interviewer asked him that? He’s still a good kid though.. hard to hate him, even if he has sketchy memory of The Human Victory Cigar

  65. 65 Bad Girl

I’m a Detroit fan through and through but my hats off to the Heat. They figured our number and Williams? Where did he come from? Feel that Dumars needs to do some seriously bench tweaking in the off season. Oh, why did we lose Arroyo? Anyway, three years in a row to the Eastern Conference Finals is pretty good. I’ll be rooting for Dallas. Look on the bright side, there’s the Tigers ;-)

  66. 66 Robbie

Its actually very easy to hate him.

  67. 67 Matt Watson

HP: well, yeah, the interviewer said it first, but Wade said Pat Riley challenged him before the start of the playoffs to do it as well, so he seemed to believe it, as well.

I’m irrational right now, I realize this. But I still don’t like him.

  68. 68 HP

Ah, thanks for the clear up.. Serious WORD on the bench problem. Delk was this game’s bench literally.. Dice I feel is part of the starting rotating but he couldn’t use his hand no mo’

Anyone thought J-Will should’ve just passed the rest of the way after he went 10/10? He had to miss…on a layup of all shots…damning stats to hell!

  69. 69 aRChPoPoY

The question now is: Do they break up the core? They’ve been cruising throughout the playoffs… I agree with the over-confidence side A LOT. It’s like they know they’re good and they don’t need to win to prove it anymore….

I don’t blame Flip… It’s the “Core” players in my opinion. As valuable as Ben Wallace is, I think he should be the first man out… I don’t know, as much as I love what he does, it doesn’t cut it anymore. Maybe it’s time to swap him for a go-crazy scorer type of player like Ray Allen? I don’t know….

    I have faith in Joe D though….

    W.W.J.D? (What Would Joe Do???)

  70. 70 Robbie

Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobli are so likeable and I was gracious in defeat in losing to them but there is something about wade that just makes me want to throw rocks at his knees and legs all day till they bleed. But shaq i dont mind. I just despise wade.

Oh well , his style of play his career span is 5-7 years

    Enjoy Heat.

  71. 71 Tim

The Heat can’t beat the Mavs!

  72. 72 P

I think Ben still has a couple good years left in him but it’s tough to offer someone the huge contract he deserves when you know that he relies 100% on his athleticism, which will decline soon, if it hasn’t already begun. Sign and trade, anybody? With a miracle, maybe Grant Hill, part 2?

IMO, the two largest holes they have are lack of a post-up player and no scoring off the bench, aside from ‘Dyess. I believe Bonzi Wells is a free agent and could take care of both of those to an extent. Aside from him, this year’s free agent class pretty much sucks. I think the real solution here is to put one of those invisible dog fences 15 feet from the basket and a collar on Sheed’s neck. Force him to post up.

  73. 73 Robert

Boy Do i hate Dwyane Wade, and the thing is i used to like him because he was humble ,there is no doubting his talent, but boy doesn’t he just think he is the nicest thing right now.

Im going to empty my thoughts and frustrations

    1. I hope Dirk Drops a 100 points and sweeps the heat just because i hate Wade, and think Shaq is a straight A$$

    2. Why did we select Darko

    3. a lot of miami fans are arrogant

    4. Detroit will be back

  74. 74 P

Also, does anybody think their inability to make open shots over the past month has anything to do with fatigue?

  75. 75 Matt Watson

For what it’s worth, I put up a “game over” type post, if you’d like to move the “WTF just happened” conversation over there. Or keep talking here. I don’t really care about anything right now.

  76. 76 Robert

I think detroit needs to bring back the old defense which made a lot of people think we were boring, those grind it out games was our style not this uptempo jump shooting team

  77. 77 Robbie

Larry Brown always preached playing inside out basketball because thats how you win its proven….

Under Flip Saunders we became a 100 percent jump shooting team.

    That doesnt win.

  78. 78 Atticus

Pistons drop two games to the Heat and the problem is that Flip’s not making adjustments. Pistons lose a third game and the problem is that Flip has been spending too much time on the offensive side and has not focused enough on defense. In game 6, Detroit’s offense was able to get off good shots. The problem was that not many of them went in. I know why. It was Flip’s fault! Come on. In addition to shooting better, Miami just seemed to play like a younger team. A little more hustle and a little more energy. And the two big difference makers on the Heat came up huge this series. Wade and O’Neal are special players. It was disappointing to hear TNT commentators playback feedback from the Pistons’ players placing the blame on Flip, although Sir Charles did a nice job in coming to his defense. The lack of harmony in the Piston’s house this series was an early indicator that they were in trouble.

  79. 79 TVBrain

There’s nothing funnier than Pistons fans hating somebody for supposed arrogance. The irony is almost as thick as the dissappointment in here.

  80. 80 Blurrz

Well said, TVBrain! Finally their arrogance is shoved right back in their face.

Honestly, it happens to every team that wins, I think. Probably part of being human, plus the fact that you don’t know how long it’s going to last, so you have to squeeze every moment out of the current run that you can.

  81. 81 Tamika

Y’all stop hatin on D-Wade he is the first GREAT player from that ‘03 draft to make it to the finals unlike that loser the pistons picked AKA DARKO. If u really hate Dwyane Wade then u are not a fan of basketball. Plus the HEAT will beat the Mavs and Wade will be MVP. So stop hatin Piston fans u had had yur chance to get D-WADE in ‘03. GO MIAMI HEAT!!!!

  82. 82 Ian Cameron

I think it is fair to say that the Pistons became what they were supposedly the opposite of: a favorite who knew it and walked and talked like it.

They railed against the Lakers in ‘04 for giving them no respect, and this season they did the same to all comers. If we as fans were blinded by the regular season, we should have known something was up from the Cleveland series. This Piston team is just not the same anymore: no more alley-oops, no more hounding halfcourt traps; no more dagger threes.

They’re a semi-soft, jump-shooting team that couldn’t shoot; a recipe for disaster. This offseason will be a crucial one for Joe D.

Congrats, Miami. Now even though you haven’t been there — at least act like it. Focus on the finals rather than stomping around on a Pistons blog taking offense to the disappointed reactions of Piston fans.

  83. 83 Shaun

Thanks to his Game 6 performance, Jason Williams is now a candidate for the Jerome James Award. I don’t think he’s under contract this summer, too bad for him. Feel free to browse my blog,http://spawnnsports.blogspot.com/, I’ll be posting a pistons recap of what happened and what they should do for next season. Pretty shocked about their playoff breakdown. At least there’s still Dirk to watch.

  84. 84 Rossco

Too bad this didn’t go seven games, I would have loved to see Jake the Dancing Fag crying his eyes out.

And don’t shit on Darko, the Magic have a strong young core of guys who will compete longer than Ben and Rasheed will in the future.

  85. 85 Tamika

When Dwyane Wade said he was the first one from that ‘03 draft in the finals he meant to say he will be the first one from that draft to actually contribute to his team as in actually score points unlike that darko guy.

  86. 86 Dudley

You can’t blame D-Wade for forgetting about Darko…but Detroit fought the good fight. Flip will be in BIG trouble this off-season…can anybody rule out an LB return?

  87. 87 Rhondda Nunes

I think Larry would rather return to Detroit than be the “dead man walking”that he is in N.Y.Joe Dumars gave him a hell-of-a-lot more respect than he’s gotten from Isiah Thomas,(the most bumbling G.M. ever, ‘tho I loved you has a Piston, Isiah!)to say nothing of “Starbury” who wants to “die a Knick”(Quick, somebody tell him he already has!).Pick out an urn for that trophy case & get him off the floor of the garden before some wild Knickster offs him(coming soon to Sportscenter!).

  88. 88 Travis

Heh, I’m only posting this here because it wasn’t mentioned ANYWHERE on the main site…

THE HEAT ARE THE NBA CHAMPIONS! HEAT IN SIX, BABY!!!! Dirk sucked. D-Wade is a Golden God. To add a Detroit spin to the two week old news you wouldn’t break, well, I can’t wait to play you guys in the playoffs again next year. Heat kicked your butts this year, but the Pistons are very good.. and now they’re angry. If you guys knock us out next year, it’ll be because you were the better team. When it doesn’t happen, and Wade torches you for 40 a game… will you man up and give us any props at all? Or will you whine about let downs and officiating?
