“Dale Davis” arrested in Miami

Dale DavisJust saw this come across the wire:

A member of the Detroit Pistons was arrested after an alleged disturbance at a Florida hotel.

Forward Elliot Lydel Davis — who is commonly known as “Dale Davis” — was at the Courtyard Marriott hotel in Miami Beach when the incident occurred at about 2 a.m. on Tuesday, according to WTVJ Television. Hotel security guards allege that Davis shouted obscenities at them, the station learned.

Davis was charged with assault, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

He has since posted at $5,000 bond.

Wait… that’s it? That sounds just like my last trip to the Sprint Store, minus the handcuffs (I wish I were joking). We’ll post more info on “Dale Davis” as it becomes available. But what’s with the mugshot? Was that shot on a cameraphone?

Er, huh? So did he “assault” security guards with obscenities? Or “insult” them with obscenities, which isn’t really a capital offense. I’m just not understanding how what is being reported translates into assault and resisting arrest.

Probably a bunch of crooked Heat fans posing as the fuzz.

Haha look at those red eyes, he looks high as a kite.

He was probably angry because he only played a few minutes last year and still collected a paycheck. That would make me angry as well…

Here’s the real skinny on what happened and this is coming from someone who knows Dale and his family since childhood. I all boils down to a misunderstanding about a room key, over-sensitive security at the hotel and a smart mouthed white cop who makes insulting comments and then hides behind the badge when Dale responded. Too many black people hanging out on South Beach these days has brought out the racism in the populace. Notice that the same thing happened to Gilbert Arenas and the Cincinnati Bengals player all within the last month and all along the same stretch of South Beach.

Actually, I wasn’t there, but it bothers me that every time a black guy gets arrested by a white police officer it’s the cops fault. That’s stupid, as if the cop didn’t have anything better to do. Dsquared probably ran his mouth and tried to sort it out by fighting, and he lost. Take your lumps and go home. Why can’t people man up these days, geez.

Steve: I’ve never, ever considered myself very politically correct, but I’m completely not comfortable with the blanket statements you just made. We don’t know for sure what happened in this one instance, let alone “every” one.

I know Dale Davis very well. We spent a great deal of time together in college and have seen each other sporadically since then. While he he can be a menacing power forward on the court, he is one of the genuinely sweetest human beings. There is a reason he was aquitted on all charges - he was completely innocent. Dale is not an aggressive person by nature. It takes a great deal to provoke him. Regarding this incident, I am beyond confident that the agression began with the “officers.”
